Here is an update on Crompton.
Crompton looks to NFL future | citizen-times.com | Asheville Citizen-Times

Good article, although his pops had the following comment:
“It is what it is,” he said when asked about his time with the Vols.

“Obviously, I'm glad coach Kiffin came in and helped like he did. It wasn't necessarily a new start for me, but he came in and had the right system for the right players.”

David Crompton was hanging out at McCormick Field and said he was very proud of what his son had overcome.

“To come from where he came from and to do it on his own, it's like being the first player picked,” said the elder Crompton.

“He's a good kid, a good man. He's worked really, really hard, sacrificed a lot and I'm tickled for him. Things happen for a reason, but good things happen to good people. One day he will talk about Tennessee, because there's a lot there to talk about, but he's not ready to do that right now.”
im not sure how to take it, obviously his dad isnt well liked around the stadium, I hope the things crompton has to say are not negative. I know he took a beating but I think he ought to just let it go if he is gonna come out and bash the fans.

Where was that sentiment when a large percentage of the fans were bashing Crompton?

Of course he won't have good things to say about Tennessee. He's probably mad at all the fans and all the pre-Kiffin coaches.

He was booed by fans, fans said he was the worst qb to ever play at Tennessee, and he supposedly received death threats from fans. (Not that the fans didn't have reason to be upset - he was pretty awful until '09 UGA game - but I fully expect he hates the UT fan base)

Fulmer ran him through a carousel of offensive coordinators. I doubt Sanders did anything to help him develop, I'm guessing Cutcliffe was focused on helping put Ainge back together again, and Clawsen was just not the right OC to be under for a QB looking to develop and get to the league. Kiffin (and Chaney, too, I hope) were probably the only coaches he had that were both focused on him and good enough to help him develop.

Having to endure what he did and coming out the other side, you know he was sticking it to the Vol fans as much as anyone else. He should not be surprised, however, that he was not well liked while throwing 3 INTs to every TD. Passionate fan bases are not going to pat you on the back and say, "you'll get 'em next time" when you are terrible one game after another.

So, I don't blame him for not appreciating some of his time here, but what in the world else would you expect? We forgave the bad and now are supporting our own. If he doesn't want it, no problem.

Yeah I know I have mixed emotions on him. From what I have been told he wasnt the best team mate during Ainges senior year, also his dad was Clawsons biggest fan when they hired hime. So for them to possibly come out and trash UT in any way would not be classy IMO.
I know he got it very bad last year but its a million dollar industry and when you have someone who looks to be driving performance down its gonna get nasty.

I AM a JC fan for alot of reasons but the main one is respect. I have great respect for someone who endured the difficulties AND non-sense like he did. He did so with alot more class than most of his critics will ever have.

I'm glad Kiffin helped... that's the one truly redeeming thing about Kiffin's stay. He helped JC, Hardesty, and others get close to their potential.

I think the article indicates that JC will some day talk about his time at UT. His dad has had some things to say already. Credit JC for not talking before some of the wounds heal more.

I would say that Fulmer and Cutcliffe will be on the receiving end of the criticism.

It's a two-way street. If we, as fans have the right to be critical, so does Crompdaddy.
Although what he has to say might be negative, his story is probably worthy of being published.

maybe he's not ready to talk about it now because he's writing a book about his experience at UT and people will have to pay to read about it later. Lots of money to be made.

talk loads of trash about a guy and then people are surprised when he turns around and punches you in the nose?

Crompton is a class act and a great person to be around.... Things happen for a reason and I couldn't be happier for this kid.

I wish him well and thank him for his contribution to UT. I wish all Vols in the NFL well. Why wouldn't you?

Crompton needs to put his big boy pants on. He should just say "maybe if I played better at the times I was booed they wouldnt have booed me so much". Its pretty simple really, it happens in all sports. Nfl fans are the same way. Im not a Crompton hater I just dont feel like he was a helpless victim during his time here.

You cant possibly be comparing college football to the NFL.

He wasnt talking about UT the university. He is implying the fan base isnt something he wants to talk about.

Crompdaddy wore his "big-boy pants" everyday he was a UT QB. I can only hope that my kids show the kind of heart and will that he showed. Nobody on this board knows can imagine the feeling of 100,000 people booing you every Saturday. He fought through it and because of that he will always have my respect. He is the definition of a true Volunteer. If you don't agree, check your Orange attire at the door.

I'm very happy that Crompton was able to turn things around like he did, but yeah, I doubt very seriously he'll have many fond memories about his time in Knoxville. I know I had more than a few things to say about the guy after I traveled to Auburn to watch, possibly, the worst second half "performance" of any QB ever....a stellar ZERO completions. I was utterly disgusted.

come on now, its not like our fan base is different than an alabama or any other major univ. fan base, if he had the same results at any other school in the sec thats not vandy or miss st he wouldnt have had it any better. Im not saying its right but it is what it is.

If he has bad things to say, I fully understand it. He went through a lot of crap when he was here. I'm very glad he made a turnaround and went pro.

Maybe if the fans who booed him, mocked his name, called him the worst QB in UT history, vandalized his property, etc had enough class to not do those things...

JC was the QB. He frequently acknowledged that being at center stage when things go bad makes you the lightning rod for criticism. But he WAS the victim of MUCH of what happened to him at UT.

He didn't choose to have 4 OC's in 5 years. He didn't choose for one of those OC's to be as totally incompetent as Randy Sanders. He didn't choose for one of those OC's to detest him like Cut did. He didn't choose to be caught up in the same Fulmer death throes that Clawson was caught up in or to have an OL rebelling against that OC behind their coach.

Once he became the starter, he didn't choose to have the weakest, thinnest set of WR's of the Fulmer era.

Yeah, JC made mistakes. Yeah, his confidence was crushed. Yeah, there were times when he was his own worst enemy. But to act like he didn't work through extraordinarily difficult situations and challenges is just stupid.
