Crompton rated above Tebow for NFL Draft

Something that was overlooked by the article is JC's mental toughness. A lot of guys would have packed it in and left town considering the amount hate the guy was getting. I am happy the guy proved he could be a solid/decent QB in the SEC. I hope he can get into a system at the next level and really excel.

I like this criticism: "Earlier on, he was unable to beat out Erik Ainge, who is a fringe NFL player."

Sanchez couldn't beat out Booty.

Yeah and Fulmer really liked open competition between returning starters/ upperclassmen and their backups...

You forgot about recruiting.

That's true.... However, the subject matter was on Crompton and Kiffin, not recruiting....

If Kiff and co. would have landed us on probation in the next few years, all that recruiting may not have meant that much.... JMO...

Let's not forget that he took the heat for him too when Crompton struggled those first few games. Whether people want to admit or not, Kiffin really helped Jonathan and had his back 100%.

Agree, but who's to say Chaney didn't stand up for his QB and help Kiffin to understand that standing behind Crompton was the thing to do??
We really don't know, but I'll take the experience Chaney has with QB's over the experience Kiff has with QB's any day..... I personally think Kiff is getting way too much credit for the Crompton turnaround... Heck, I was saying last year that if Crompton was given the time he could be a good QB... Guess I should be the QB's coach??
I'm over the whole Kiff debacle, and looking back, he did have some positive sides.... Unfortunately, with hindsight being 20/20, the negative sides far outweighed them!!

Honestly... if you're going to rank players truly at the QB spot there are several others that are further along fundamentally for the NFL game than Tebow.

Jevan Snead is further.

Colt McCoy is.

Tebow's motion is just soooooo long that he'll struggle until, if he ever does, shortens it up and keeps the ball up around his ear.

If he gets drafted 5th ahead of Tebow, McCoy, Snead, et al. in this year's draft as predicted by Rotoworld today, somebody is going to get some serious credibility points for coaching QBs. It wasn't Reaves. I hope it's Chaney.

Everyone including Kiffin and the ball boy will claim credit.

I thought the part about his being surrounded by the weakest supporting cast at UT in 2 decades was pretty accurate.

He never played with high caliber WR's... even when he got two #2 WR's back last year he was able to really turn it up. If he'd had Clausen's WR's, he'd have set records at UT and probably would have never had his confidence shattered.

Jon is the guy who can pay credit to whomever he feels is due. Of course, most of it is his own.

I'd love to have seen him play with some of the inbound WR's. Great point!

Dont get me wrong Tebow was extremly good at what he did obviosly. That being said he was a System quarterback, and I just dont think there is currently a NFL System that he fits into.

But how legit is Rotoworld (a fantasy sports website) in being able to judge talent for NFL teams? It's great for JC...I wish we had him around for a couple more seasons, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Rotoworld is very good for fantasy sports so we'll see if the people that write checks for the players see things the same way.

Got that but you said he was good at that and everything else he sucked at. Just sayin...

I'm very pleased he has a shot. No one can fault his work ethic.

But what does this say about recruiting for the QB position for college?

Chaney may have behind the scenes. Who knows? Kiffin did it in public. People were calling for him to be benched after the UCLA game and Kiffin said that he believed Crompton was the QB that gave the Vols the best chance at winning and that he was NOT going to bench him. I think that really helped Crompton's confidence. We can all have our negative opinion's on Kiffin, but he did the right thing by supporting Crompton. Cutcliffe was an idiot for saying that he wasn't coachable.

How funny will it be to see NFL QB Crompton handing off to NFL fullback Tebow (who will then promptly fumble it)?

I was happy for JC as any other fan was, and still am. Think he did one heck of a job last year, even without his previous woes. But...... looking back at it, he had 27 td's, which looks great, but ten came vs WKU and Memphis,.... add one more for the garbage one vs Auburn and the one great game vs Georgia (4 td) and that is fifteen in 3 of 13 games (14 but the one meaningless one at end of Auburn). Keep hearing how he came around in 2nd half, which he did to a point, tho his best game was the first of the year. Am still proud of the dude, but I was let down when I saw all but 12 td's came in the other ten games where he was not padding his stats. Even still, by the eye ball test, he was certainly a solid QB last year.

I'm not putting to much stock into this list just because this guy has the QB from Fordham at #4.

I have actually told a buddy that Crompton reminds me a lot of Matt Moore in the NFL. I hope both of those guys end up winning a lot of games!
I also liked this guy's comparison between Snead and Anderson. Spot-on.

This is great. I think McCoy doesn't have the size to be great in the NFL, for health reasons. He had like 3 concussions playing in the Big 12. What is the NFL going to do to him?

I don't think Drew Brees has the size to be .... Oh, wait a minute, he is great. But the concussion qualification might be limiting.

Tebow will never be a quality QB in the NFL.

Crompton might hang around for 3 to 6 years as a third stringer/practice squad player

nobody deserves it more. that kid stuck stuck with us, kept his head high and just worked his butt off even after all the criticism and even death threats! good luck crompto, make us proud! GBO

That's not so bad for JC... possibly several million if he can hang on that long.

His upside is mostly through his physical skills, but the NFL is a very fast game. If he gets into the right system and works like Peyton on learning the game, who knows?

Hopefully he can work with the same coach for a few years. That could help too.

It would be a nice recovery.

Gotta give Layla's hubby credit here to. He did the right thing and it eventually paid off. Had Fulmer done the same, he may still be coaching here and UT may have had a killer year in 09'. For 2 years, I never heard so much vitriol toward a player from his own fans. It was sickening.

Did Cut REALLY say that. I'm doubting it.
