Crompton on GoVolsXtra

If you think about it, 1/2 a second is an eternity on the football field.

It doesn't matter if a QB throws it 1/2 second late or on time if he starts staring down the receiver the moment he starts dropping back to pass.

OMG, man, I learned when I was 7 that if you see tripple coverage on a reciever DONT THROW IT THERE!!!! One thing you want from a QB is for him not to get you beat, Crompton gets us beat!!!!

Exactly. If he could quit staring a hole through the guy he is going to he would be better. He locks on the guy he is going to and that's it, he's going there if there is quadruple coverage or whatever. He won't make his progessions. He got rattled in his home stadium and he can't do that and expect to win, let alone win on the road

He never checked down either...If you lined up wide right good chance the ball was comming to you..Pump fake out and up would worked great..

If he was truly a Vol, he'd step down and give someone else a shot to see if they could do better. He's not getting the job done and it's apparent to everyone.

It would have worked great if he could hit the broad side of a snow covered barn. He couldn't hit Neyland Stadium with a truck yesterday. I hate downing a guy and I'm going to support him but that performance yesterday made me want to claw my eyes out.

It's not just that Crompton can't make plays for our offense, he is a liability. He is a liability for or offense, and even our defense, and overall team confidence. I can take a guy who can't make big plays as long as he limits his mistakes and doesn't try and do too much, but you can't count on anything from him, not even getting the damn snap. We could even count on Rick Clausen more than that. Five yard hitches and outs were almost automatic with him, though while not much, at least it was positive.

Here's the deal.... Jon Crompton has no field vision whatsoever. He missed 2 TDs in a row in the 1st half, then overthrew GJ by 8 yards on a wide open post that would've been a TD for about 60 yards.

Did you notice the tightend open in the checkerboard when JC threw into tripple coverage? UCLA sent 3 guys to where ever JC was looking and just left everyone else open. UF's D is going to devour JC this weekend -heck, they may not even rush him... just run to where he looks for the pick-6.

My feeling with JC is the same as it was last year. When he drops back to pass, it is 50/50% that he will throws it to a defensive player. The defensive coordinators know this so they just stack up the box for the run and hope that we call a pass play. The solution is hard and it is going to take time. I feel that CLK simply thought he could correct JC's INT problem but on the first pass of the 3rd quarter we all realized it hasn't been corrected. I can also guarantee that it will not be corrected by September 19.

I'm to the point that I think it's almost luck when he does something good. Like he probably wasn't even trying to do that.

I concur JC's inability to function at high speed. But wait, there's more...
  • O-Line was owned yesterday
  • Receivers got little or no speration on their routes (save for 2-3 times and JC missed thoses)
  • Lane put far to much faith in G Jones late in the 4th Qtr and especially on the last series
  • Years ago on goal line plays, our backs flew over the D-line from 3 yds out...hard to stop that play
  • others...

Crompton, IMO, suffers from Tunnel Vision. This comes from his inability to handle pressure or stress. It is mental and has nothing with his physical ability or intelligence. The tunnel vision shuts down his peripheral vision, causing him not to be able to see the full field of play. That would explain him staring down his receivers.

We went through a period after running the ball all over UCLA that we somehow though we could start throwing. Did we not completely abandon the run for like 4 straight series trying to get the pass going? Like last year, we were one dimensional and we can lay that at the feet of JC.
