Crompton looked prepared, checked down from primary receiver, and did not throw any worm burners or airmail any throws into the 1st row!
The next two weeks will be all we need to know how far he has come since last year.[/QUOTE
I agree, and I also noticed a big difference from last year. He wasnt running for his life. Last year he was only getting 3 seconds to make a throw. Every team we played was getting pressure on us. I think that the Oline was the most impressive difference from last year. I could have ran for 15 yards thrrough some of those gaping holes. I like what Ed O was saying about the line play, Come to the line angry and hit somebody, then get up and do it all over again. Hats off to the new coaching staff, because they are the real deal. UT swagger is back. And I think that we will not get beat in Florida as bad as everyone thinks, just wait and see.
The Season is young.
The QB is working with a new system.
The Opponents were scrubs.
All in all, it was a good game to build the QB's confidence for the not so scrubby opponents to come.
Consider this. If you start out your season playing a good team, (ex. UT last year, UGA this year) and lose, the coach may be out of a job come next spring. The first game is important. Get a win under your belt and then go from there.
Is anyone else worried about how he stared down his receivers? Maybe he didn't have to look at the 2nd or 3rd receivers because the primary was open, but it appeared to me that he locked in on one receiver. That obviously won't work against a better defense. Thoughts?
I have to disagree Especially one play where he pumped and stalled (WKU) safety, then threw to the other side. Great example of good QB play! :superman:
In the first quarter Crompton was staring down his receivers hard. After that, I have no idea what happened? Almost like someone told him to quit doing it and he did.
He also had all day to throw, he won't have that luxury much longer.
Credit Crompton with one INT, the other was the receiver fault. It was a bad throw and it would have hit the ground had the receiver not tried to catch it with one arm extended all the way. It was more of a hand-off at that point than a INT.
Big area of improvement: no worm burners or fans catching balls.
Yep, and then we'll really see if he's improved or not. FWIW, I did see things from him in that game that I didn't see all of last season. So he most definitely has improved. The question is, how much has he improved? A little or a lot?
I thought he stared down the guy on the 1st INT he threw but after that he made his progressions nicely...JMOIs anyone else worried about how he stared down his receivers? Maybe he didn't have to look at the 2nd or 3rd receivers because the primary was open, but it appeared to me that he locked in on one receiver. That obviously won't work against a better defense. Also, I love the intensity and the fact that Kiffin is using starters on special teams - I saw several defensive starters on the kick-off team. I loved B.B. getting chewed out after running out of bounds - what a difference from the previous regime.:good!:
The one INT he threw was definitely his fault for staring a hole through his WR, but the 2nd one was a tipped ball, even Kiffin said that wasn't his fault...I'm ready to see what he's going to do this Saturday against a decent opponent thoughI'm more worried about the picks. Doing that against a team like WKU does not bode well for performance against a defense like florida (among others)
I saw him check off receivers several times. The deep pass to Hancock was a excellent example.
When I read the OP, I immediately thought of this exact pass. I watched it and thought "this is what we need to see every game." He needs to work on his progression and going from receiver to receiver. If he get's that under his belt, MONEY.
