well atleast that was what we were talking about last year. It is amazing how much changes in one year. We were getting pumped about the Clawfense, about snagging a coach from florida (this year it is a player), and about the possibility of Arian Foster becoming a Brian Westbrook. Which brings me to this question. What do you think we are overestimating/underestimating this year with all of the changes?

wow...crompton for heisman...we are a rare breed vol fans...

Not everyone was on the Crompton bandwagon.

Foster still could be a Brian Westbrook type back, just not at UT, in the NFL. You know, where they will utilize him to his potential, and will have an OL that will block. Every yard he got this year, was on his own ability. He had no help what so ever, and the Clawfense was an awful thing for a pro-type back to be put into.

Last year we had absolutely no "pleasant surprises." Everything last year from QB, to kicker, to OL was terrible. I am not going to predict what, but this year I think we will have several "pleasant surprises" that no one will expect and one of them being the QB, whoever it may be.

i for one after being at the Arkansas game two years ago when crompton had to play in place of a hurt Ainge and i knew we'd be better off with uncle rico under center having also been to some richmond games seeing the clawfense there....however i never expected the total flop that was this past year....so we'll have to wait and see how things turn out with the new staff, for all we know kiff might have crompton fighting for a heisman this season (at least in my mind hopefully)

what bad things could you possibly have to say abouts clawson's offense at richmond? he built a national championship squad at richmond...lets not forget about Tim Hightower, who i believe set the rushing record under coach clawson.

it worked there because the quality of defenses he played were no where near what UT would be up against, some plays were so slow developing or stretched so far to the sideline behind the line of scrimmage only worked thee because of the lack of overall team speed at that level. I went to the game they played william and mary and i thought a few times "that play would have never worked had the defense had anybody with speed"

True. But I was speaking to Pelosi's greatest characteristic, and Vida's greatest asset.

Good thread. It is really hard to tell what might happen this year, because there are so many unknowns. We have no idea who will be starting at any position, offense or defense, except for Berry and I think he is pretty safe. One thing is for sure, regardless of who starts at QB or any position on offense, I believe it can only get better. I really don't see any way our offense couldn't improve from last year regardless of all the unknowns. It was really bad.

I think even Fulmer could get 7 wins with next years schedule. With a bit of luck we could get 9+ wins.

The trip to Gainsville will be really hard. I hope we keep hitting to the last wistle and keep it close.

My main concern over the past couple of months was that Crompton might be considering the draft.

Our road games next year are: Florida, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Kentucky.

Realistically speaking, UF should win the East, Bama should win the west, and Ole Miss is the dark horse out of the west if you ask me.

So 3 of our 4 road games are against quite possibly the 3 toughest schools in the SEC aside from LSU.

Granted we have an easy schedule to get 8 wins, anything over that will be very difficult.

Ole Miss is still Ole Miss. They just have a decent QB. That said, without drastic differences in QB play, we can't play with anybody.
