Crompton finds religion!

Maybe this can be moved to the PUB or something? It really has no place here in the football forum and I should've known that.

I don't condemn anyone; I'm not the judge. That title has been reserved for Jesus. I hope you figure it out. I just said a prayer for you as a matter of fact.

As to what God would and wouldn't do, that's easily the dumbest, most risible argument of the many that people give for not following Christ. Here's a little test for you: if God created the universe, he's probably a little smarter than you or me or any other human being who's ever lived. I personally can't make so much as a grain of sand out of thin air, and there's never been a human being who could. So unless you can make a universe, you're probably not qualified to judge the intelligence and decisions of the being who did.

I'm not questioning the intelligence of God, simply his existence. I don't believe he exists. There's no proof. In fact, my argument is what is called a "proof." It is a mental exercise to test one's hypothesis. There is no proof either way. That's why you have "faith" in God, because there certainly isn't anything else to go on.

Call my argument stupid if you want, but it's not mine. It was thought up by people smarter than me, long, long ago.

That's relativism in its purest form bud. Not to get into a religious debate (although that's what this thread is pretty much), having your priorities in order is not relative. God SHOULD be #1 in all of our lives. He is not at the top for a lot of people (Christian and non-Christian), but, when you get that right, other things in life fall in their proper order. Btw, I'll be the first to say that I fall off that horse daily. It's not a contest luckily.

So a godless person can't have his priorities in order?

If God is not the first priority, then no. You might argue that family or a career or whatever should be #1 (probably relative to each person according to you). The point is that by God being #1, then it gives the true meaning to everything else you do in life. We are each called to God whether you want to believe in Him or not. You or me or anyone else believing or not believing that He exists makes no difference to His actual existence. Relativism has crippled this world, and it's at the heart of the demise of this country.

I strongly disagree.....

I have found that the issue of tolerance is exactly opposite from what you have stated. Most Christians go out of their way to ensure that they are tolerant of Non-Christian views, where Non-Christians are not tolerant of Christianity. This is shown in your mockery of the original post that Jonathan Crompton had accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior. You are entitled to your opinion and I respect you for sharing your views, but I do not have to be tolerant of the mockery of my beliefs and my new Brother in Christ. No one was or is mocking your beliefs. You do not need to mock Christianity or Crompton for becoming a Christian. And yes, my life is more than fulfilling; my cup runs over from the blessings the Lord has given me. I will pray that the Lord blesses your life and you find fulfillment in it as well.

My original post was in response to the assertion that he played better because of his new faith. That's how I, & others, read it. I have not mocked your beliefs on here, although trust me I could.

And, lastly, please don't pray for me. Don't waste your time. I don't need it. I created my blessings by taking advantage of who I am. The combination of my parents genes gave me the talents & attributes that I possess. I, then, honed those talents & concentrated them to become who I am today. No one, who really knows me, which you do not, would say I need your, nor anyone else's prayers.

Thats because thats how you wanted to read it. Its like you read a few paragraphs and then just ignored a few. I didn't say that God was going to lead us to a national championship. I said what I did about God wearing Orange in jest. I don't unserstand how any intelligent person didn't get that! Seriously man, you strike me as a pot stirrer...and thats fine. Everyone has their place in society.

I read the whole thing. Just because you chose to add the disclaimer at the end that it was all in jest doesn't change your original assertion. Anybody can make a statement & then say 'oh that was not serious'. It doesn't alter the original statement.

I could say something like 'Hey kids, it is your parents that put the presents under the tree not Santa...just kidding...it really is Santa'. It wouldn't change the upset of those kids, or their parents, right? Same deal with you & your statement.

I have spent many years around evangelicals who gave god credit for all the good in their lives & who blame satan for all the bad. Not saying that you blamed satan for his poor play. We should all be resposible for our actions & not place credit or blame on the supernatural.

Also, one stirs the pot to mix the flavors & make sure the soup doesn't burn or otherwise go bad. I don't like stale, burned soup. So stirring the pot is not a bad thing to me.

I'm glad that you find comfort in your beliefs. Comfort can be a hard thing to find in this world. Stay strong in your beliefs. It is obvious that they are dear to you. Use them to keep yourself headed in a positive direction.

I don't believe as you do, but I wish you success & happiness in all your adventures!

GO BIG ORANGE!!!

And thats fine bro...I'm never gonna be the guy to string you up because you don't agree with me. I did not add a disclaimer, though. I repeated something that was said to me. There was a certain part that I found humorous. When my buddy told that, I automatically thought "We have a Tebow!" Of course I wasn't serious, but you won't accept that.

You are a pot-stirrer...and thats not a bad thing. Many great moments have come from pot-stirrers, such as:

a. "It depends on what your definition of IS is"
b. Ozzie Guillen speaking in toungues
c. Fulmer's Ainge/Shaeffer & Ainge/Clausen debacle.

On second thought...

See, that there was a joke. Feel free to pick it apart, though. Everyone has their place here and in life. As long as we are not raping, killing and stealing, we'll be alright. We'll just have to agree to disagree on some issues, I guess. Not the end of the world, right?

GO VOLS!

Agreed! We just disagree on the mechanism of why.

As far as being a 'pot-stirrer', I'm alright with that. The soup tastes much better if the different ingredients are well mixed together.
I, too, found the story humorous. BTW, I have always hoped Crompton would do well. Local boy does good sort of thing.

At least we both have great taste in college football. So neither one can be THAT bad. :) Hope to stand next to you & cheer the Vols someday! GO BIG ORANGE!!!

I am sure that you have debated your views and beliefs with many people who have tried to preach to you and argue with you about Christianity. I do not wish to argue with you about theology or preach to you about religion in this post. As a Christian and a Vol, I am very happy for Jonathan and I merely stated that this thread is celebrating a commitment from him to follow Christ. It is no place for the mockery of Crompton's faith and beliefs. Did God help him play better football or throw completions instead of interceptions? I don't know and neither do you, but I am sure that Crompton does.

As far as my prayers for you, I have no doubt that you are an intelligent and competent human being who has spent many years working hard for what you have. I am glad that you have worked hard for what you have accomplished in your life. I didn't say that you did not use what has been given to you. I offered my prayers for you that the Lord might bless your life. You may not need my prayers or anyone else’s but I will pray for you and pray that the Lord continues to bless your life as He already has.

Evidently you have enjoyed some prosperity in your life; good for you; I'm happy for you. But if you think you're in complete control of your life and everything you have came from your own efforts, you are truly deluded. A lot of people in this world have as good or better genes than you do, and have worked as hard or harder to hone their talents and make the best of said genes, only to have wicked people take it all away from them.

If you really believe God doesn't exist, I would encourage you not to tempt him by claiming responsibility for the blessings he's allowed you to have.

Jrob you are wrong.

People all went nuts in this thread with the usual pseudo intellectuals girding themselves for war against the evangelicals who live in a post Christian country where they are considered the last great evil to vanquish.

In any case this did belong in the football forum.

This belonged in the football forum because if Crompton really did just become a Christian it can help explain not just the Georgia game, but the rest of the season if he is able to keep his head up after a mistake and not get so focused on his mistake that he mentally cannot recover.

Christians view sports as something fun that enables them to keep their body in good shape and that can enable them to display acquired excellence to God's glory. A Christian has their identity as a loved child of God, not as a QB.

Crompton seemed so tight, and so overly concerned with each mistake as if they were life and death. Sports performance and mental and emotional health are certainly linked, especially for a QB.
