A friend and I were discussing this the other night and his unbias opinion was that he considers him an under-the-radar mid-round draft pick.

Personally i agree.

It just appears to me that he can be a good QB with good coaching.

Wasn't he the 2nd highest rated QB coming out of high school behind Sanchez?

Anyway, thoughts on the matter? Agree? Disagree?

I do not think he will be drafted, but he will be signed as undrafted Free Agent. He may even make a practice squad somewhere.. His play of late makes him Tony Romo Like.

Crompton will be drafted in the later rounds.

Coaches always assume you can teach / get right a player's confidence and mental handling of the game. No amount of coaching will give you the necessary physical tools.

JC has all the necessary physical tools, and some team will take a chance on him in the later rounds, if he does well at the senior combines.

Good for the young man. He's gone the distance, and navigated adversity.

Agree! If Crompton finishes the year strong, and most important has a great showing at the combine (very important) then I say def. Like they all say he has all the ability to make every throw with ease. Kiffin said hes in the ZONE and didnt think he could miss a target. 2 things really stood out to me in this weekends game after watching it 4 times over.

#1 you could tell with the pass he threw to Moore when Moore made a great catch in the endzone for it he was ON. I know it looked like he lead him too much but IMO it was just perfect. Moore did the "swim move" on the defender (very nice) to get open and JC put it only where Moore could get it.

#2 the pass to Gerald Jones rolling out of the pocket and being chased BACK by a defender and he threw a bullet to GJ off his back foot and it went 40 yards it seemed like and got their quick! This was on a 4th down. GO VOLS BEAT OLE MISS!

Its throws like these when scouts take notice. CLK said he can be drafted and I believe him still.

Last year? beginning of this year ? no. Now? You betcha, he gets a nod from somewhere. You put that kid in a system with a mobile pocket, and brother you got a good QB down the road. Hes very coachable thats what I see now.. I dont honestly know who is responsible for Jonny's turnaround but you better believe there is some QB coach in the pros seeing what I am seeing, and since they REALLY know their business, Im thinking hes going to be a good journeyman in the pro's.

Still have 3 games and a bowl left to play in the season. If he can keep his play at a high level, I think he has a good shot at getting drafted. His size and arm strength is just what the NFL is looking for.

He has height and a strong arm which NFL teams like. I think if he finishes strong he certainly could go late or get picked up as a free agent.

This really depends on how much a GM believes that the rotating OC situation at UT impacted JCs development. Clearly he has the physical tools to play and it appears his accuracy has gotten better.

Being that I live in Charlotte I can see him ending up here only because the need a quarterback they can develop and JC fits that mold. He'd be a good fit to the current Carolina offense as well, he won't be asked to put the game on his shoulders and most of his duties will involve him handing the ball off and manage the game. Outside of that I think he gets drafted sometime after the third round and surprises a lot of people, he's surprised all of us so there isn't any reason why he shouldn't continue to surprise at the next level. Great thing about the NFL is as long as you show well in the combines and get signed you can make your way up through the ranks quickly, no one in the NFL cares about what you did in college so long as you are good when you get there. I hope he gets the chance to extend his career because if anyone in the football world deserves the success he's getting right now it's Jonathan Crompton, thanks for never giving up even if we did.

Yep. The combine will mean a lot for Crompton. I have a feeling scouts will love his arm strength, size, and athletic ability. I have no idea how he will do on the mental aspects of the testing, and that is probably where his destiny will be decided.

He is maybe the perfect example of a guy who would benefit from the old NFL-Europe pseudo farm system, where a franchise could throw him out there at small risk against decent competition and see what he is capable of doing. Otherwise, he's a gamble, wherever he is taken.

I'd say he fair pretty well considering what he's gone through here.

I'd say he'd impress some people at the combine. Big arm. Mobile as hell. His completion percentage isn't over 60 (yet), but he did break the "acceptable" TD-INT ratio of 2-1 last week (21 TDs, 10 INTs). A senior bowl invite would help improve his draft stock, depending on how he performs.

But really...Jamarcus Russell had, what, one impressive performance against an overrated Notre Dame team? And where did he end up? He sucks. Anything is possible.

If crompton goes 1st round.. TN recruiting would sky rocket lol

How crazy would it be if Crompdaddy went on the 1st day?? that would be awesome!! He always does so well in practice, so his combine is going to be rediculous, IMO......they can blame his play last year on Foolmer, and Clawfense!!

Crompton is definitely a better pro QB prospect than Tebow. Tebow might get drafted first, but only because the Jags are desperate for fans. I'd think the adversity and all the hatred dumped on JC makes him a better pro prospect in the eyes of a pro scout. If you can keep improving in that environment, think what you could do in a normal one!
Speaking of that, all of you JC-bashers on here need to look at your sorry selves and realize that trashing a Vol is not something a real Vol fan does. I used to cringe when he threw, and I spent the 1st half of the Georgia game trying to explain how bad Crompton was to my friend watching his 1st UT game of the year (he thinks I'm an idiot now). But I never posted hateful garbage about any Vol on the internet for the world or player to see. Not even Haynesworth, and I'm a Titans fan too. I realize some of you are kids and some of you are drunk on here a lot, but this is a good chance to learn something you can take with you. Stop bashing Vols. That includes fellow posters. The rest of the world hates UT and the color orange, so we have to stick together. We are a family. Don't let the internet bring out your inner d-bag. Go Vols!

Tough call, could be a late round draft pick for somebody but most likely get picked up after the draft.

I think he has a better up side than Tebow has for the NFL. Whether that warrants getting drafted, I agree with some of the other posts that it will depend on his combine and Senior Bowl results.
