This article is from TOS. This is for VOL608.

Kiffin thinks he had his best practice so far.

"That's a big thing because, obviously, this offense has paid off in the past," Crompton says of his sudden proclivity for watching the Trojans on film. "I mean, it's put up some big numbers and a lot of championships (at USC), so everybody's bought in. We know what we have to do to get there, and we're going to try to do it."

He said USC had a great offense even before Leinart and Bush were there.

Kiffin said Crompton gets better and grows as a QB/leader daily.

"Oh, yeah. I'm 100 percent confident in myself and everybody around us right now," Crompton gushes. "It's always fun getting the extra reps and getting more reps here and doing that. That's the whole reason why you play football. You want to be the starter. You want to get every rep. That's the competitive nature in you, and I'm one of the most competitive people I know. Whenever I get the chance, I'm going to go out there and do it to the best of my ability and just go 100 percent, and give it everything I've got."

We'll see how solid Crompton's confidence is when he plays against a defense that's really out to nail him.

If CLK can rebuild Crompton, then he should have the top QBs in the nation asking him for a scholarship.

If I'm not mistaken I believe Crompton said some similar words last year.

if Crompton is our qb, we'll be playing with a handicap.

seriously though. I have no faith in jonathan.

I really hope Crompton doesn't read these boards, it could have devastating effects on his confidence.

Who am I kidding? I feel hopeless when I see his name and starter in the same sentence.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic QB. NO

I agree 100%, If CLK can turn Crompton into a SEC wrecking machine then the top QB's in the country should be beating down his door to play for us

I admit, I trust CLK, but I am skeptical of Crompton.....

I'm a non-believer. I reject that somehow a mediocre QB can turn it around in just a few short weeks of spring practice.

The things we don't accomplish next year will be due to our QB situation. We'll win 6-7 games next year and that's all we can expect for now.

Maybe you've heard of a guy named Ainge? For that matter, how about Ayers? He was pedestrian at best until last year. Lucas Taylor went from no one to putting up one of the best years of any Vol WR in history.

In fact, you could put together a very long list of players that stank one year then emerged the next at UT and virtually every other school in the country.

I have no idea how or even if he will perform. What I will say is that he does not have "mediocre" physical ability. He has every physical tool a QB needs not only to play well in CFB but to play on Sundays.

BTW, Gerald Jones' comments would suggest that the work that's made him better was hardly limited to a few practices.

Carson Palmer sucked until his senior year. Not comparing the talent level, but you never know...

I feel really sorry for JC, because you know he is genuinally trying his best to get as good as he can possibly be. But, I can't help but not have 1 ounce of confidence in this team knowing that he will be leading it. Yeah we can beat Vandy, WKU ect, and play with AUB and UCLA with him at the helm...but We have no shot at the FL, Bama, and GA's of the world.

also some things I read indicated the USC fans were hesitant about him ever becoming a good QB. Sounds familiar

I think there is only so far that anyone could coach up Crompton. I cringe at the thought of him scorching the grass with his bounce passes.

if crompton's the guy. i'm all for it. i trust CLK's coaching and talent evaluation abilities and if that's who he picks, i'm completely comfortable with it. i don't think crompton is all that smart, but in an offense actually tailored to his skill set, he can succeed. nobody here can deny that the guy is extremely talented and the only thing missing (in the pass) is his ability to read defenses. i think that with proper coaching, crompton can get it done. i completely agree with people making the carson palmer and erik ainge comparisons. one year turn arounds are not only not uncommon, but it's to be expected to have a few crappy players become all stars from season to season.

reading about crompton is pumping me up.

Crompton was confident last year too, and I can't tell you how many threads there were leading up to the start of last season in which tons of posters were "pumped up" about Crompton.

Crompton is all talk.
