Yes I am jumping the gun but I am exited to see the 2008 team in action. Will the Crompton years be a great run of football for the Vols? With all of the recruits having a year under their belt we should have a stonger team in 2008. Does anyone think next years team will be stronger than this years?

my original thought was that, yes, 08 would be a very, very good year for the resaons you've stated above. i still think it could be very good. but i've gotten in to this debate with VIA before, and he does have a good point. As much better as i think we will be by then, with some of the young guys coming in having some experience etc......there are some other teams that will be in the same boat as us, with maybe better on hand talent during the same time.

FL, GA, SC, Bama and TN could all be very good over the next 2-3 years based on who's being brought in to the programs. especially FL and GA...they will have more experienced QB's than we will for 08, the majority of FL and GA's offense by then will be jr's and sr's and pretty talented. the same should be true of us, with the exception being Crompton or who ever is the qb.

then there's the schedule......the 08 schedule is a little more difficult, though the bama and fl games do come back to knoxville.

so given all of that, i've kind of put the brakes on my thoughts about 08 or 09 for now. i think the SEC for the next 3 years is going to be really tough, because between 5-6 teams, each will have pretty much equally good talent. I'll wait til after 07 season to make any hard predictions.

Great point I never really thought of the level of comp. getting harder also.

You are jumping the gun a bit annointing Crompton. I say Stephens and Coleman will have an opportunity to compete for the job in '08. I am not sold on Crompton yet. He seems to be a gamer, but I think he might have a little bit of the Heath Shuler mentality. That is, not being able to completely grasp the entire offensive package

To be the best you must beat the best!

So I guess its alright if we struggle because the others have passed us by????

Good point Jake. Crompton will be a fine QB, and our overall team experience will be up. It will be one heck of a dogfight in the SEC over the next couple of years.

The difference in the level of competition is what makes the Majors vs. Fulmer argument ridiculous. Johnny only had to be good enough to beat Bama and Auburn. Nobody else was worth talking about.

Fulmer padded his numbers in the early days!

I don't think Crompton should have anything locked up yet just because he's the most senior guy.

I just talked to a girl who had a class with Chris Leak and said he would sit in the back and was real quite. She said Joakim was at a bar and they took pictures with him and he was nice but Horford kinda ignored them. I know off topic.

He showed me alot in the LSU game, for a backup in a huge game he did good.
he had two good throws and lowered a shoulder. that's it.

don't get me wrong, i still think he can be good, but to say "he is" or "he will do" anything at this point is just speculation.
