Crompton and Ainge (New Perspective on an Old Topic)

Didn't say he would. I don't think he ever will. But any college coach worth their salt can take a qb capable of making the cut of an NFL team and win games with him.

Fulmer won games with him.

If you are saying that Fulmer is a good coach, then that is an entirely seperate debate. His current employment status right now would suggest otherwise, but I hope you can clarify.

Nope. Just further evidence of why he got canned is all. I do think that the "mental aspect" is something which is coachable to an extent and that it is possible there was some sort of situation under which ainge could have delivered us an sec title and fulmers fault for not making that situation happen as much as Erik could have taken it upon himself for self-improvement.

That's how I view his time here at ut in a nutshell.

eh, i wouldn't say ainge was a bust. he was (for the most part) a qood qb for tennessee 3 out of the 4 years he was here IMO. i don't "worship" the guy or anything, but looking back on it, i don't think ainge was a bad qb.

No, but he underachieved. He was on multiple teams that could have produced an SEC title, but barely ever sniffed one.

I don't think anyone has mentioned, the only reason Rick was playing was to help recruit his little brother Jimmy

They recruited Jimmy, but they didn't play Rick to get him here. That should be obvious from the Chris and C.J. Leak situation.

Great point about the Leaks. Poor ole CJ just didn't have it.

I actually heard that he did, but that the Leak's dad was constantly harassing Fulmer, and Phil had enough and wouldn't play CJ even though it would make it impossible to bring in Chris if he didn't.

I would take the lesser of the clausens over CJ Leak any day. Am I crazy of did he transfer to UT from LSU or somthing? I know rick did but it seems like CJ did too.

This thread began because I said UT had a unique situation: two NFL QBs on the roster who simply froze for long periods of time. No one has really been able to produce a similar situation at another school and how it was handled better.

Ultimately, Phil has paid the price for the failure of his QBs. It is his responsibility to shoulder. Maybe Stoops would have made it work (when his QB was injured though, not so good a year even in a two-horse conference).

I wonder if the haters would have anything to talk about if we don't have those extraordinary years of awful QB play. C'est la vie.
