Crompton and 2008

I think B.J. will turn out better than Jimmy Clausen. Recruiting people underestimate Tennessee/Virginia HS football talent, but these boys can play. Here is my HS QB rankings from last year:
1. Ryan Mallett-Michigan; Huge kid with a huge arm and huge potential
2. Mike Paulus-North Carolina; Will be the leader of UNC in the coming years, has a good arm and NFL potential
3. Peter Lalich-Virginia; Huge QB (6-5 235) will be great for the Hoos.
4. Cam Newton-Florida; Good size (6-4 230) and good speed, will play a Tim Tebow type role this season
5. Tyrod Taylor-Virginia Tech; Was not recruited for his passing skills (4.4 40) but may see early playing time
6. Jimmy Clausen-Notre Dame; Lightning quick release but may a bit small and those expctations at ND may be too big to overcome.
7. B.J. Coleman-Tennessee; Great leadership skills and a cannon arm. Cutcliffe will develop him into a star.
8. John Brantley-Florida; The only reason he is this low is because there is nothing for him to do at Florida.
9. Aaron Corp-USC; With all that talent, expect Corp to have a nice career behind Sanchez.
10. Will Korn-Clemson; Will start immediately.

Crompton isn't the guaranteed starter for 08, so let's not even bother with this speculation.

While I comletely understand the perception that Crompton is no shoe in, CPF's track record says otherwise. My concern if he does not earn the starting job is that we will go through another 2005 type season at the QB position. We cannot have CPF and Cutcliffe at odds over who will lead the team.

Crompton deserves first crack at the job. By all accounts he has worked very hard, and has the physical tools to compete. While some discount his performance against LSU, I will continue to argue that it was proficient and almost heroic. My preference would be to name him starter in the spring, let him get comfortable with the talent, and take the reigns in 2008. That would also allow Coleman to comfortably redshirt this year.

No way that happens Lex. Cut gets who he wants, Fulmer would not even attempt to tell Cut which QB to play...

Unless he'd stayed at a Holiday Inn Express the night before...

That was my first thought when Cut was first hired....but I saw a lot of CPF influence on our offense in the latter stages of the season last year. Also keep in mind that Crompton was recruited pre Cut, and that CPF has some degree of obligation to the Crompton clan. I simply cannot discount that fact combined with CPF's history.

OK, but as good a prospect as Coleman seems to be, a then RS frosh is simply not going to overtake Jonathon. Unless you want to throw a Nick Stephens battle at me...

If someone with Crompton's pedigree isn't starting as a RS Jr over a RS Fr, it is because he is either hurt or is a bust. I don't see any signs of him being a bust. Given relatively equal talent (and most signs point to JC being more talented,) the guy who has developed for 4 years is going to be better than the guy who has developed for 2.

First point, he didn't run over Laron Landry, he ran over Chevis Jackson.

2nd, I would bet my savings Crompton starts the 2008 season, and barring injuries, finishes his career at UT with around ohhhhh 26 to 28 starts.

I dont know how much you have in savings but I will front you the money on whoever wants to take that bet. Crompton will be the starter.

I think we have a better shot this year than next or 09. Stafford will be a JR, Tebow will be a JR. Both have more playing experience with more experience on their side. If we have a shot at the East or SEC it's this year.
