Criticism of the officials (merged)

I think there was some horrible calls in the game. It's a RIVALRY game you're supposed to let them play. Instead they were making bad calls on one side then justifying it by bad calls on the other side. Horrible reffing, the YMCA youth league could've produced better refs. The end when we were TRYING to foul them and held their jersey with a no call pissed me off. What about earlier in the game when we got called for EVERYTHING, and then we did EVERYTHING and got nothing.

Vandy still played a good game and we lacked our usual charisma and streaky play, but those refs were bad.

call it whatever, but a combined 69 FTs in a game is far too much ref intervention.

I understand the officiating didn't lose the game, but the style of officiating put us at a huge disadvantage. We played poorly and lost, but that doesn't excuse the black haired ref for being the worst official ever.

it went both ways and it was a tightly contested game. If you're going to complain about too many whistles quit hand checking. Resorting to grabbing jerseys then whining about it is just bad. Really bad. no need to entice the refs even more.

not true. very dependent upon the crew and their conference affiliation.

then most games I watch in March are dependent upon crews and conference affiliations that call tight games. Of course, I make sure and watch all Duke games, and they're always called tight, i guess because they're duke.

you apparently missed the rasta football player absolutely mugging anyone he approached and that was before inbounding. Ball in play, he just rode them. Nary a call, ever. Shan Foster can't play D without handchecking because he's a similar athlete to Lofton and Vandy's big slow footed paint sloths handchecked Tyler all night.

You know as well as I that Tyler scores all night as long as the Vandy guys have to move their feet. They didn't have to.

you're one of those people where it is impossible to claim the officiatiing was poor? I am not blaming the loss no the refs while saying the officiating was horrible. It is possible for the 2 to coexist. The 2 offensive fouls on T. Smith were horrible.

To those complaining about the officials...

We shot 29 FTs, they shot 31. Ogilvy played about 10 minutes tonight. Quite whining like memphis fans.

I'm not saying the officials were anything but poor, but it ultimately didn't create an unfair advantage for Vandy other than that they shoot FTs better.

laugh. every fanbase has their whiners. i'm actually glad memphis finally got beat, but now, it's back to the top of the polls for us. thanks for giving us a breather. best of luck for the remainder of the season.

how about tennessee's "block" late in the game on the layup where he essentially punched the Vandy in the side of the face. Good no call there.

You all can say what you want, but I still believe these refs graduated from the Teddy V. Institute...

the defensive player simply had to get there before Smith did and that's what happened. Ticky tack they may be, the fouls went both ways. Adjust your game. If it was onesided at all, I could see the argument. But this was just the refs not letting anyone get away with anything.

I'd dare say that Duke gets many favorable ticky-tack style calls.

that's why i'm saying that the refs were using more bad calls to even out initial bad calls

must have been one of the instances late to avoid stopping the clock. there were about 5 of those.

we played sloppy at critical times...didn't make our FT's at the end...Vandy hit 2 more 3's and Foster was on...the refs were inconsistent but that's not the reason we lost

1) No he didn't.
2) It has nothing to do with adjusting your game. It was horrible officiating. It is possible to call a foul on every possession. That does not make good officiating.
3) make sure to point the 70 free throw tourney game out ot me.

There are plenty of times where officiating is the cause of a team's loss.

Case in point. Rutgers Vs. Tennessee in Women's.

This wasn't one of them. They called a very tight game, but enough annoying calls went against both sides that it is negligible.

Vandy needs to feel special sometimes too. It was a game called very tightly. I don't like when you notice the refs to much in a game. Means they're to involved ,let them play. The calls that we got came at some inopertune times.

We lost because:

Lofton took horrendous shots
JaJuan really never showed - on either end
Ramar was a complete disaster
Tyler had a huge advantage and never took it
We shot 30%
We forced no TOs
We gave up some very big late offensive boards
Etc, Etc, Etc.

Either way, the officiating made a huge impact on the game and that's not the function of officials. I didn't know the black haired gent, but he was the worst official I've seen this side of Valentine.

Our play lost, but the officiating was horrendous for a major basketball conference.

What kills me about this games officiating is the fact they would call some of the smallest "ticky tack" crap, and as stated earlier, there where some very blatant fouls that the refs could not see. I think the SEC has decent refs in football, but they need to start training their basketball refs a bit better

I wasn't a fan of the Refs tonight, at all. Not that they were biased against Tenn or Vandy, but that they called such a ticky tack game. The one bad no-call against us was the guy tackling JaJuan after the timeout was called.

They just called garbage all game both ways.

I thought the officiating was terrible, but it was bad both ways. It came down to us just not knocking down the shots when we needed them. I did yell pretty loudly at the TV when they called the "charge" on T. Smith when he knocked down the shot moving away from the basket.

1. Yes he did.
2. Good teams can adjust
3. I will point out the tightly called games. Tennessee's sloppy play led to a majority of the fouls. I can't expect all teams to play with that kind of hangover.
