Nah, you got it man, you do a great job of telling us what to think and say. Keep on, keeping on.

No I am not your kind.

You stay with yourn, the kind whose allegiance is to the coach and not the program.

You say this as if Knoxville/Athens/elsewhere is some metropolis or glamour town like NYC or Miami.

I haven't been to Starkville, but it seems like it would be the only truly awful SEC town.

Apparently you have never been to Fayetteville Arkansas?

Good job.

Let's stop acting like it is difficult to recruit to Tennessee though.

Majors, Fulmer, Kiffin, and Jones all did it.

Tennessee is not a hard sell.

After Dooley, Tennessee was a much harder sell than ANY of those coaches you just mentioned had.

Wow...this must have been really hard for you to say after reading many of your posts recently!

Not at all actually. I have been cheering for this team for over 30+ years. I want it to be successful. That's why I care so much. I can simultaneously hold two facts: 1) Butch failed to meet expectations this year: 2) This recruiting job on Smith was very impressive. It's called being intellectually honest.

It is great to get Trey.

Getting Trey was not some Herculean feat by the coach.

Sorry so many of you look at UT football as so lowly.

People should be asking why we aren't getting at least half of all in state kids we want.

No view of lowly expectations over long haul, but all these kids grew up with that's positive about UT is parent's stories from back in the day...some were born the year we won the national championship. My son asked me tonight why would the #1 recruit in the country commit to UT...after the way the season played out. I don't really care if it was a miracle or layup commit...He's a Vol, and that's all that matters.

I don't think anyone said it was "Herculean," merely impressive, and worthy of recognition--not dismissed out of hand as apropos just because the kid is in state.

I also don't think they are looking at UT as "so lowly," but when it's been almost a decade since we even won our division, and almost two decades since we won the SEC, some reference to the reality of the situation we are in must be accommodated.

Again, there 50 coaches, that if at UT, could land one in state 5 star lineman. He has more work to do if he plans on garnering impressive for this class.

I have been extremely hard on Butch following the USCe & Vandy losses. I thought this was the beginning of the end of his tenure here, mainly because I assumed recruiting would take a serious step back.

To his credit, Butch pulled in a huge 5* OT in Trey Smith. He is a game changing type player. I think he could start at LT next year & push Richmond to RT. Suddenly we have 2 tackles that can anchor an offense.

I'm impressed Butch pulled this off & hope he proves me wrong. Well done. Now let's develop this talent!

Right on CA. Glad to see this post from you. It only takes a few key adjustments to make a good program turn into a great program. Things were looking rough 9 days ago, but the best chance we have for greatness is with butch right now. (Assuming that those few key adjustments happen)

This is a huge step in the right direction.

I agree. But if Jones is such an unimpressive coach (don't misconstrue me as a Butch-devotee, because I am not), doesn't that make it more impressive that he was able to win the commitment of the #1 ranked player in the country over two playoff teams? Alabama is about to put 4-5 kids into the NFL on the first day of the draft, and we haven't had one since Eric Berry (until Barnett this year, almost certainly).

I've asked that same question, in different context, several times.

If Butch sucks so bad, doesn't it make this commit that much more impressive?

Listen: Fayetteville, Auburn, Starkville, Birmingham, Oxford, Athens, Gainesville, and Columbia all pale in comparison to the allure of living in Knoxville. Situated at the base of the beautiful Smoky mountains, surrounded with water, with a revived downtown, K-town is a great place to live. Anyone who has traveled much would have a tough time arguing the point. Most of the above are either small-time or ugly as hell.
