With over 20 years in the combination of law enforcement,fire/EMS and security I couldn't even begin to form a top 10 list of the most screwed up things I've seen...not much surprises me these days...lol
Oooh I would love to pick your brain. I'll be starting a bachelor's in criminal justice (focus in homicide) this year. Started an application to my local police dept this year, but my husband got orders to Korea. My plans have to go on the back-burner once again.

Worked in a doctor's office for 8 years. Mail comes in one day and there's a hemocult envelope in the mail. It's, um, thick. lol The little man didn't understand how to use it and sent a whole sample in. LMBO!!! The lab tech just about quit over that one.

Grateful Dead show at RFK in ‘95. We pull into a parking area near the river to hang out all day before the show. We immediately start partying with the people next to us.

After a few hours it begins pouring rain. No thunder or lightning, just rain. We run under a tree and our new friends run under another tree about 20 feet away.

A couple of minutes later lightning strikes the tree they are under and we see 3 bodies flying through the air. One guy’s legs are completely discolored and the girl is non responsive. Someone begins CPR immediately, but unfortunately it took 30 minutes for the EMT’s to arrive.

Not even close. He's only 4yrs in. We're stationed at Campbell, but pcsing elsewhere when he gets back.
Get him stationed in Georgia, we need more orange! Actually, I'd want Florida. I was so hoping my daughter would've got there, but she ended up in Idaho.

I'm going in with an open mind. I could care less about doing patrol, but understand it's a necessary step to get to where I want.

I know a few thru the years that went straight from newbie to detective and none of them lasted more than a couple years. I highly recommend at least a couple years of patrol duty or street crimes/narcotics division if the dept has such a unit. This way you get a eye opening to the **** you'll see and "the view from the dark side" as we call it lol.

I would've loved to do that, but wouldn't have lasted long. I have no tolerance for certain things, and would've probably killed someone if I'd caught them hurting a kid. Not even kidding, just couldn't do it.

Even if I could skip, I wouldn't. I think being a patrol officer gives you the necessary learning tools to be an effective detective. I met a lady here who works with the homicide team. Basically they work the crime scene and then pass their findings along to the detective. She said she did 3yrs of patrol then earned her current spot.
Like I said, I'm open-minded. There's not much that will freak me out, and I know this is my calling. Lol.
My husband has to sit there and listen to my comments on the reality crime shows I watch.
Me: whoever killed her knew her.
Him: how do you know that?
Me: No forced entry, no known enemies, stabbed to the point of overkill.
Him: lol ok whatever.
End of show: killer was a relative
Me: told you 😁

Keep working on your plans. You'll get there. It can be hard with your husband's career but it can be done. It took my wife 4 tries but she finally made it through nursing school and achieved her dream. Too many military spouses give up. Don't be one of them.
