Cowherd....

Cowherd changed after he went to fox. I tried to follow him over and wanted to but I just found his new show too boring talking about sports I don't give a hoot about all the time.

Basically everyone wants drama. They want a story, and the easiest way to create drama is to troll Tennessee fans.

As long as Butch comes away with 8 wins (it's a lock) he will be here for next year. I think we are going to have a successful year and probably hit 10 wins next year. We are looking soooooo good for next year. No reason we can't have a 10 win season this year though. We have as good a shot as any.

Cowherd had a sports radio show here locally before being hired by ESPN. He always tried to present himself as being knowledgeable about college football, which he clearly was not.

He's from the Pacific NW originally and most folks up here just aren't interested enough in college football to know much about it. But he worked in the southeast for a short time and when he came back he felt he was qualified to speak about the SEC. I always found him to be an idiot and this is just the latest of many examples.

The key is to define "bad."

Yep, that's the kicker. IMO, 6-6, he goes; 7-5, recruiting buys him more time; 8-4, he stays, negotiates a small pay bump; 9-3, he gets an extension. Win the SECE (with any number of wins), and Sexton gets him a sweet contract. But that's JMO.

For me, losses to GT, UF, UGA, Bama, LSU.

actually any loss to Vandy, Kentucky or SC -- those are the kind the negas cant get over for several years ... if CBJ was to get fired did Cowface say who the mid major coach would be as his replacement ?

I think he lost a lot of money on some preseason bets involving UT last year.

Pretty sure you are right. The reason he is into college ball is because he did a long stint in Vegas and made a bunch of vegas connects. He's a betting man and was high on VOLS last year.

He's of the impression that we could get out ahead of the Chip Kelly lottery if we fire him fast enough...

Ridiculous. He's gonna push that story all season like he has insider knowledge about a possibility too.

Part of this is the calendar - Here are the hire dates of SEC coaches

Saban 1/3/2007 - probably on hot seat if loses NC 2 years in a row (jk?)
Mullen 12/11/2008 - will never be fired because state could never do better
Sumlin 12/14/2011 - most likely to get fired if bad season this year (imo)
Stoops 11/27/2012 - unlikely Ky could do much better
Malzahn 12/4/2012 - could get fired if they significantly underperform this year
Bielema 12/4/2012 - hard to say here - Bert's just such a natural hog
Jones 12/7/2012 - no petitions yet
Mason 1/17/2014 - who else wants the job
McElwain 12/4/2014 - they pull the trigger pretty fast down in the swamp
Odom - 12/3/2015 - it's not his fault - kids don't want to go to mizzou
Smart 12/6/2015 - not this year
Muschamp 12/6/2015 - he's safe for now
Orgeron 9/25/2016 - i think he has a short leash
Luke 7/20/2017 - no idea what's going to happen after the NCAA rules

... what a moron.

I'm one of the resident "evils" for making people face some inconvenient facts here. But this is ridiculous. Jones' seat is warm and losses to GT and UF would make it very difficult for him to survive.... however Cowherd's hate is irrational.

What's his beef?

I agree with him that to lose to GT and to Florida would be bad. I think we mistreat GT. They are in for a pounding. Our guys sound blood thirsty for some football. I hope a blow out win over GT doesn't mess with their focus. It's a long season, they need to stay on point. That's CBJ's most important job. Keeping 121 focused on football 24/7 till Jan 9th, the day after the NC game. Or they can goof off and end up like 120.

I'm going to be sitting back relaxing.

Get to work 121. In tired of all theses losses.

Go Vols!

This. I don't think I've ever seen hot seat talk more out of touch with reality than what we've seen with Jones. No one thinks where we're at is the acceptable peak for the program but firing someone with back to back 9 win seasons when you've been down for as long as we have and the guy in question inherited something far worse than a plain ole dumpster fire is flat insane.

Insanity is strong in some of the Tennessee "fan" base; apparently they were in diapers or had amnesia after the Fulmer firing.

They believe in unicorns, the tooth fairy, and magic proven coaches. They seem to believe that any school who doesn't hire a "sure thing" (whatever that is and wherever you might find such an animal) at Sabanesque salaries is simply intent on self immolation. Now, the interesting thing is that none of them are collegiate coaches or ADs - hard to imagine their knowledge and wisdom isn't in demand somewhere.

I agree. I would add arrogant and condescending too.

As far as Cowherd. He's a douche.

Cowherd and Stephen A. Smith are the two biggest douchebags to ever talk sports. Wish someone would do the world a favor and elbow strike them until they quit talking.
