Cowherd rips Tennessee Fans

That's kind of what I thought too. A lot of people are all for going out and making a big scene in public, but I doubt there were very few if any people who would truly escalate the situation to actual physical violence. Especially with his wife and kids.

Publicity...is what it is about.
Cowherd takes the wrong angle on this one. He is like a little kid, enticed by shiny things. He's a sucker for glitzy programs like USC. But he is right that it's pathetic the culture is such in the SEC that people will make death threats over something like this. It still doesn't repudiate Kiffin. He is scum, what happens after the fact, doesn't have any bearing on what Kiffin did.

It is pathetic that we fed his ego.

CAUTION
The following post contains irony and humor

Obviously the death threats were Kiffin's fault caused by his leaving....talk about putting the cart before the horse...HAHAHA

Kiffin, Monte, O....they've been around a long time. They knew SEC fans were crazy. It would be better for all involved if he would just come out and say he never really liked it here, and if most UT fans could just say "It was fun while it lasted." That is really the bottom line in this situation.

Knoxville ain't for everybody. I can live with that.

cowturd is right. we do have some of the dumbest fans! All ya have to do is listen to vol calls!! bama is the same way!!

Kiffin thrives on media attention. This will not be the end. He will do whatever it takes to get people back in his corner and to view him the way he wants to be viewed. His mentality is perfect for Los Angeles, but to this point he has not backed up his words with a great record.

At the USC program he was given, backing up his mouth means winning big and soon. He might tone it down over there as far as his comments go. His attitude at UT was to always try to draw any attention possible to himself because he honestly had no respect for the university on it's own merits. He wanted it to be USC. Anything less was just that to him. "Less."

Oh yeah that Notre Dame fan base is sol enlightened?!? Didn't Clausen sport a shiner by this past season's end? Cowherd, 'eff him. Jay Leno, Cowherd, and the chick on Bad Girls this year, have enough chin altogether to replace the Rock of Gibraltar.

Cowherd is absolutely right on this one. There were DEATH THREATS made because a coach changed jobs. ARE YOU SERIOUS? And it is being rationalized in this thread by saying because it happens elsewhere so it is ok for the death threats to happen here? The people who made the threats should be rounded up and taken out of society.

What is wrong with you people? Never, under any circumstance, is a death threat ok.

I promised I wouldn't comment on this anymore but we all know x is a scum bag. He knew what he was getting into. How many times did he say that we talk about football all year long, that expectations were extremely high here and he wouldn't have it any other way..... Really?

Ahhh...Bill Cowher, the guy who pissed away about five chances to make the Super Bowl because he choked in the playoffs, then finally got back there and won when the refs handed it to him on a silver platter. I can't wait for him to come back with an organization that doesn't scout talent so well, and watch him go 4-12 three years in a row.

There are idiots who make death threats against coaches everywhere. Let Kiffin lose to UCLA a couple of times and he'll be getting them over there, too. It's just that most coaches take them for what they are--some drunk who calls in and says a bunch of crap they won't even remember in the morning. It's drama queens like Bill Curry and Lane Kiffin who make a media circus out of it.

Lane Kiffin is an idiot, and so is Bill Cowher.

If Lane would of left the day after NSD then people probably would of helped him packed and moved just to get rid of this cancer. He left at the most important time and it hurt our recruiting.I dont think too many people cared for him one bit and couldnt wait until he left. This is why I think people /fans acted the way they did when he took the USC job.It had everything to do with recruiting and little to do with him.

I see where you are coming from, but in reality it would not have been fair to those kids who signed with Kiffin to see him leave the day after NSD. We want kids who want to be here and give their all for Tennessee. At least Dooley had 3 weeks to assemble what he was able to assemble and salvage a solid class of kids who want to play for UT and their coach. (I know there was a situation with the early enrollees, but magnified across the entire class would not have been good.)

Your first post on here EVER is this crap above me??? Seriously? Nobody is saying death threats are ok. Some people are explaining though that nobody would have cared if he left for USC in March and not 21 days before NSD. Also, the poster are using other schools which have had the same type of death threats or violence against a player or coach not to rationalize if death threats are right or not but the posters are using the other examples to show how unjust it was for Colin to single out TN and the South. You need to learn to read you little worm of a troll.

Death threats over college football is stupid no matter who they're against or what kind of justification someone dreams up. It is wrong in every conceivable way.

I wish those people could be caught and prosecuted.

Everybody on here agrees the death threat part was stupid. I mean, to start with, you never warn someone you're going to off them before you attempt to off them. It just makes the offing thing so much harder.

death threats are stupid......but then again leaving a sec team right before NSD in the middle of the night after one year of calling out their rivals and making stupid mistakes that could get the school on probation is pretty stupid also....

Exactly, the amateurs on this board wouldn't know a Karadzic from a Castro. They apparently haven't attended Assassinations 112 at Quantico...

Cowherd is a fan of USC, the Lakers, the Yankees, and the Patriots. That should tell you a lot.

I don't think anyone actually was going to kill Lane Kiffin. If someone had really wanted to kill him, then they could have easily done it. Death threats are just people yelling irrational things.

yeah i like colin cowhurd....but he is really being a cowturd on this one. i heard he had like a skit on his radioshow making fun of tennessee fans.....COM ON MAN

I am not really upset by his comments because he is really telling the truth. Kiffin left because he is going to be around a program that he understands better and that he is better suited for. It is just sad our fans have to be so stupid to do something like cause so much negative attention to our fanbase and State.

IMO Kiffin left because he wanted to play in an easier conference and live in a state that was easier to recruit. If Florida and Texas would have offered him the HC job, he would have left to take it too.

Sadly, Karadzic missed the first class of Assassinations 101 where they teach if you're going to commit war comes you either A) have to be the leader of a big enough country that the UN can't do squat B) own enough of the debt of another big country so the UN can't do squat or C) be backed by a country that is either A or B. Castro learned very quickly how to use option C to its fullest. I get the feeling that you are military, by the way, and that makes me like you. :hi:

Nobody is justifying, rationalizing, or dismissing the incredibly stupid behavior of a few.

What I and others are pointing out is that it's grossly unfair for the implied statements to be made that basically tar the SEC fan bases when it applies to pretty much any school, no matter how much money they may have, no matter what their history is, and no matter how much they may pat themselves on the back for being the epitome of sane and classy fans.

You are a laughable clown my friend. Cowher Is a great coach. Lets just use something that you are obviously oblivious to, the facts:
Win-Loss Record 149-90-1
Winning % .623
Games 240

Super Bowl XL victory (2005)
2 AFC Championship victories (1995, 2005)
AP NFL Coach of the Year (1992)
2× Sporting News NFL Coach of the Year (1992, 2004)
149-90-1 (regular season record)
12-9 (playoff record)
161-99-1 (overall record)

i guess i could also bring up the fact that the Patriots, who beat the Steelers in some of the AFC championship and playoff games, were also caught cheating during Cowher tenure.

I truly could go on and on about Yearly losing ProBowl caliber players and developing new ones and dominating his division and so on, but i sure you already have your mind made up. By the way , what does your coaching resume read like. Forming an opinion on this matter by listening to you is like listening to my Bankrupt, drunk brother-in-law trying to give me Finanacial Advice.

By the way we are talking about ESPN guy Colin Cowherd..not Bill Cowher.

Jason wanted an equal share. That's fair. Lars is worth over 100 million so seriously let's not feel bad for the guy. And James had some really bad drinking problems too. Thanks for the name calling. I'm sorry you're so upset. Also sorry that you're band sold out on the Black album and quit being relevant the same time Guns N' Roses broke up. If GNR actually got back together they'd be top of Billboards and selling out tours. Metallica will never be on top again and the only people who go to Metallica concerts are nerdy white kids who can't get laid. SAD BUT TRUE!

OK , here is my opinion, since this turned into a metallica debate, which i never intended.

i actually enjoy Metallicas Music. I prefer old school Metallica but enjoy some of the new stuff also and love Black Album.

i never could understand the "Sell-Out" thing. I go to work to make money and i try to get more. Also when technolgy improves and times change i adapt to those also. So am i a sell out since i
1) Dont make the same amount of money i use to and by adapting my product more people purchase it.
2) I am still not listening to an eight track while wearing Bell bottoms.

Also, in reference to White nerdy Kids. I like how you use White as a reference of not being cool, kinda like it is used when desrcibing the "Man" who is always an Old White guy who has money..oooooo soo evil that he actually is a success. I can think of some Old White Guys like Washington or Lincoln, Sorry im ranting but this is a pet peeve and i know im gettin off track but im tired of the White reference when it comes to Being evil and corrupt or cant dance, not cool, etc..

.Also i am not smart enough to be a nerd and in reference to not getting laid, well im married, so i guess you are right about that one, i dont get any..

But i am a guy who grew up on Master of puppets and Kill'em All so i feel my opinion is somewhat relevant. I do see both side of things with the Lars subject though. I mean if you produced Widgets, for example, and you spent time , money and resources to develop produce and distribute these Widgets so you could feed your family and someone else was stealing them even if you became successful wouldnt that peeve you off. But i do know the history of the band and how they became relevant by playing gigs and giving albums out and word of mouth so i understand the backlash from the fans, who was loyal and built the band up feel turned on.
