Couple of crazy rumors floating around...

Many live in the emotional, knee jerk world. Then, there are some who actually think through issues before reaching conclusions. Refreshing post.

I, like many, have been living with this for 10 years.

My opinions are anything but knee jerk....

For the life of me I can't understand why Tennessee fans want to keep talking about this and keep it alive. It's an unsubstantiated rumor. It has been addressed by the people who were present when it supposedly happened. We can only hope that there is nothing to it. Nothing good can come from it if it is true.

So why keep talking about it? It's like some here want it to be true. I just don't get that.

I agree on the progress. But, this progress is at a year one or two level. Not a year three with back to back top five classes.

Agreed, I think his pride and loyalty has been a hindrance to the teams record. That's why I'd force changes if I was Hart then accept no more excuses.

And one of those classes is in its true freshman year. Surely, you don't think that one is going to contribute at an extremely high level. In fact, because we are having to play three of those guys, and four if you count Phillips, a lot of snaps in the interior of our defense is more of a problem right now than a help.

They will be great players, but they are making expected freshman mistakes this season.

Not at all. I just understand what it takes to build something from the ground up. And, you can scream "but this is Tennessee" all you want, but this program has been a disaster for at least 10 years. I'm not surprised we are having some bumps in getting over the top.

But, here is the thing. We are at the top of the mountain, and we haven't even been there for so long I don't remember. I am just willing to give Butch through next year to see if he can get us over the hump. because, IF he does, he does so much else right that it would be worth the extra patience.

BUT, I am not placing my perpetual loyalty to the guy, and I have reasonable doubts about whether he ever gets us there. I am just willing for him to get his recruits to their senior class. I think that is fair. You obviously disagree, and that is okay. But, it doesn't call for you to start hurling personal attacks that I'm "okay with mediocrity." If you knew me, you would know that is not close to accurate.

Okay fair post. But whatever comes out of this there is a lot more going on than what is being told. Can we agree? Only player to come out in support of him has been Medley. I think things are worse than possibly thought. And no I don't think it started here. But with thousands of users on this board of course it's gonna get attention. I supported the players. I supported jones but when he hired DeBord I knew we were in trouble. This is far from the best staff in America and I don't think he changes. My opinion is he goes on somewhere else with less scrutiny and takes his friends with him. That's the kind of guy he is loyal to a fault.

Exactly. This is Tennessee and our expectations are to win SEC. Problem I hate is if Butch stays Hart stays. If Butch gets fired then Hart and Cheek go.

So misguided. Cheek is not going anywhere based on the record of the football team. And nor should he.

Dan Lebatard(sp) just said there was an Internet rumor about a coach hitting a player, wonder who that is. He didn't name any names just said now the coach will have to make a statement. I know Butch already said something once

Dan LeBatard just mentioned that there are "internet rumors" about a college football head coach allegedly "putting his hand on a player". Didn't mention the university, head coach, or player specifically.

For some context - he stated that he didn't know how to handle internet rumors like this in the media world of 2015, and he was using the topic to ask the question of why fans typically love macho, tough-guy coaches.

EDIT - a couple minutes late.

And, there could be some truth to this. But, I was at the Arky game, and I saw a team that played hard. It just came up short.

Now, there is one exception. On the play where Hurd pushed the tackle, the OL did not even try to get off the ball. And, that might be where the attitude problems are, if any. Maybe they are tired of being vilified, I don't know.

But, I do know this. If any player is not giving full effort, then flush this season and play the freshmen. They, along with the sophs, are the groups that are going to ultimately bring UT football back around. anyhow

This rumor BS has gotten out of hand. It's now made it to national websites and other fan websites. Good job guys. You don't like a guy so you make up a rumor that's not just harmful but is about a legal matter too. This goes above and beyond. This is the most embarrassing thing I've seen our fan base do.

This didn't start here. Every media member in Knoxville knows that some sort of altercation occurred in fall camp and they confirmed that. The details are what's unknown and speculated.

Le Batard is an idiot. If he chooses not to name the specifics of the rumor, that says a lot.

I agree about the media. But it's disgraceful to start rumors like that and for VN to allow them to continue. I'm just very surprised they have let it go like this.

Censorship much? I really am beginning to think you're either a Jones or just overly obsessed with Butch, on a personal level. You defend his every battle as if he's incapable of tolerating the pressures of coaching and not winning in the SEC. Butch is a big boy and doesn't like grown men clinging to him so back up.

I think it is a bigger mess than that. Everyone says next year every year. Most had high and unreasonable expectations but we were supposed to beat Florida. Now looks like Florida will be tough again for a long time. Does it bother people that we have become Florida's Kentucky? In front of the camera great rep for the university. But coaching ability not so much. I don't care where it started fix it one way or another. None of this meant towards you just in general.

I'll say this, CBJ can't lose to FL next year and not win the east. That's IMO fired for cause material.

Has anyone else noticed the pattern of recruits committing in the days after a big loss has stopped?

Which is troubling, because that's the one thing his dwindling supporters cling to "but he can recruit!"

When that goes, what's left?

Really? This again? How many years now with this one? Florida is no longer the barometer. Having a winning record, making bowl games annually, and occasionally beating someone not named SC, Vandy or Kentucky is the barometer.

Not in my book.

Well we can all thank God for teams like Bowling Green, North Texas, Arkansas State, etc then....
