Couple of crazy rumors floating around...

Awfully convenient that it stayed quiet until we started losing, isn't it?

I'm sure stuff like this happens often, it has on my teams before. It gets magnified when the coach has lost his support staff. I'd guess Mack didn't bring this up, nor did he want to bring it up. He's probably moved on. Maybe a teammate or disgruntled fan/student that heard secondhand knowledge brought it up. Why not? The coach is already being cooked - add some more fire.

Ok steeler, I'm starting to get a little pissed with what is going on here. You have taken advantage of your credibility to make vague statements about the situation and lead every one into a frenzy that is becoming a menace to a school and program we all live. Either tell us what you know or you are one of the more guilty ones on this character assassination.

He's been pretty straight forward. Don't think he's the position to give a word for word interrogation. I'm glad he atleast said what's being said is 100% true. That sums up what is needed from him.

Got to remember he doesn't want to cross his close family friendship up just for a forum of people who can turn on him in a split second. Or also mess up a would be investigation of it does take place in the future.

...and then after a few losses it becomes, "well...you know the players hate the way he tells all the time anyway. In fact, he and Crowder got into a fight one time..."

Yep. Tennessee's players came into this season thinking about an SEC East title. Why destroy that before the first game has kicked off?

Question was whether Butch was done if they were true.

Didn't see that, thanks. But if Swain hadn't known Stokes source I don't think he would have allowed Seth to ask that question because Swains creditability is on the line as well. I guess thats where I'm trying to get at.

Summary of the high points for those too lazy to read or who have trouble with reading comprehension:

1. SteelerVol, regarded on VN as personally knowing Crowder family members, says that the "Butch Punch" happened. Presumably he says this because people involved told him. SteelerVol did not witness the Punch.

2. The individuals directly involved in the "Butch Punch" have not directly confirmed or denied the story in public.

3. Seth Stokes, a credentialed member of the Knoxville media, asked Butch if he could comment on the allegations of a "physical altercation" between him and a player. Butch's comment: "Absolutely ridiculous."

4. Stokes claims to have "confirmed" the allegation before asking the question. He has not detailed the nature of his confirmation.

5. Other former players have commented about their own opinions regarding the coaching culture at UT, but have not offered confirmation of the "Butch Punch."

6. VolNation, characteristically bipolar, either wants Butch fired immediately, or wants everyone to stop asking any questions at all.

You're welcome.

Now the entire team is involved in the cover-up I have heard it all now

Hmmm, not exactly how I meant it but I guess my wording wasn't right. Maybe the meeting was to try and put the players back at ease to prevent them from speaking out, get them back on his side.

I don't think it was a "if you tell I'll kill your family" situation. LoL

But it is odd, the day of a huge rumor(whether you believe it or not, it is a big deal as of now) the coaches call a mandatory meeting on Sunday night, they were just with them 24 before on the field.... Sure they call meetings for a wide array of reasons, but a mandatory meeting the day of possible huge story.... Just saying it's odd timing homes, whether you see it or not

Straight forward? So straight forward every one is still guessing what happened. It has become more than a simple forum conversation now. If he didn't want these ramifications he should have continued to keep it quiet. He didn't bring it up till Sunday after the loss? Is that not just as suspect as the whole ordeal? If Steeler wants to come clean with what he knows, now would be a good time. If not, he is one of the most responsible parties involved in this sh** storm.

Good work

It seems to me it originated on a message board.

My guess is that after this forum made its rounds, guys like Swain, who have a pulse on the current players decided to check it out. I'm sure he verified it with multiple players, who may have witnessed, but most likely heard from those who witnessed. Now, you also have former players wanting to pile on, too.

You gotta be pretty freakin sure you are right or have an ax to grind if you are Swain in this situation.

I wonder why he puts this out there at all unless he is dialed in pretty close.

Yes, story is did coach punch Mack, he said 100% true. That's all anyone needs! I don't think the rest of the details matter at this point, atleast not for us. What time of day, what the weather was like day, so on so on doesn't matter AT THIS POINT. Him giving us the 100% is more than most insiders would ever offer up to us. If he is correct then we know the punch did occur.

If the party involved told you to keep it quiet for their sake and the schools sake I'm sure you would, hell atleast for your friendship sake. Once the story got out does he keep denying it? Little late for that.

Jon Gruden was never coming here yet he was asked questions about it. It doesn't validate the truth of it simply because the interweb explodes with speculation

The story has actually been out there for awhile, it's just that it got dismissed as completely off the wall stuff at the time.

The rest of the details would absolutely matter.

this is exactly why I'm saying he is one the biggest causes of this problem. People here have taking his word without an ounce of doubt. If it truly did happen, this is the most chickens*** way of going about it.

Dont know. But it dont get very far without some questions being asked and some feeling like there is enough to step out with.

The more this drags out I feel like something happened. And the 2 sides dont agree to the severity or importance. That's all my opinion.
