Country music thread

I agree. Listening to modern radio country is nothing more than soft rock beats and auto-tone filled vocal melodies. It's amazing how fake the genre is.

Sad but True. It's become an entirely "American Idol" type genre with references to Tractors, Chicken, America, or Farms. And that is the country leaning segment, let alone the Tim and Faith Mafia.

Paisley, Church, and some others are good, and honestly, i'd rather listen to Big and Rich, actually im fond of them, as opposed to the Tim/Toby/Lonestar gift wrapped for the simple music.

My current "outlaw" fav is a group called Dry County, found them on MySpace and have been digging there sound since....if your on MS look them up.

I grew up hating country. My Dad had that cry in your beer stuff going all day. Growing up I couldn't understand why anyone would want to listen to that depressing music all the time. Later in life I have a different view and country has changed a lot. Sounds with a little southern rock type beat I usually like. The one older country artist I really like is Merle, since he wrote most of his stuff I just respect his talent a lot. Warming up to country in my middle years, and for some reason I'm starting to like some of that old cry in my beer stuff I used to hate. More than anything I believe it's the honesty and story telling of country that got me to realize how great country is.

This late night VN is getting weird.............I just double posted for some unknown reason.

went to see the Zac Brown Band on Saturday at the Wildhorse...great band...love their new album!

I can listen to any country music - new and old - except for Taylor Swift, who is easily one of the most annoying singers today.

anyone heard Carrie Underwood's cover of "I Told You So" by Randy Travis? I'm not typically much a fan when it comes to people covering songs, but she does a fabulous job with it.

here's a youtube clip of it in concert. It's not professionally done, so the audio isn't all that great, but Carrie is looking absolutely perfect.

Luke Bryan is growing on me. Got a couple songs out that I like a lot.

Justin Moore's Small Town USA is a damn good song.

I personally hate these newer songs that bring out every rural cliche. They all follow the same embarrassing formula.

there are a lot of the newer songs that force me to agree.

I even think he's trying extremely hard to put a lot of southern twang into his voice and it sounds fake.

There was a song recently that was something like "and we rode in trucks". It was the dumbest most pointless song I had ever heard, until I heard John Rich's song about Detroit. Embarrassing for country music IMO.
