When asked who he thought would be starting 5 for Game 1 Rob Lewis of VQ said...
Bone
Bowden
Schofield
Williams
Walker
Went on to say he thinks Johnson is odd man out, Alexander also if Fulkerson is 100% healthy, and that Kent is almost certain to redshirt...so to me sounds like...
Bone
Daniel
Darrington
Turner
Bowden
Schofield
Pons
Williams
Walker
Fulkerson
Are your main 10...Alexander will see more minutes early while Fulky returns to form, Johnson is not likely to see much PT and Kent redshirting. Let's ride!
Bone/Daniel
Bowden/Turner/Darrington
Schofield/Bowden/Pons
Williams/Schofield
Walker/Fulkerson
Not really.
Jordan Bone - Showed flashes of how could he could be last year, apparently has improved consistency this offseason.
Chris Darrington - JUCO 1st Team AA
James Daniel III - Lead NCAA D1 scoring in 2015-2016
Lamonte Turner - Improved shooting consistency which should add something we didnt have last season.
Jordan Bowden - Good shooter, good rebounder, good defender.
Admiral Schofield - Probably will be our best player this year, big mismatch at the 3 with his size.
Jalen Johnson - Admittedly an unknown but was one of the highest rated players in the 2016 class.
Yves Pons - 4* out of HS, very atheletic, should be a great defender
Pretty stacked imo
We have some depth there. I wouldn't say we are stacked with talent.
Baulk is not the best example of Juco progression. He played injured and in pain his entire career at TN.I get what you're saying...a lot of possibilities but still a lot unproven as well. Could be one of the best backcourts in the SEC, or it could turn into a weakness like last season, just don't know.
Bone-does he hit the sophomore slump, how much was the injury holding him back? Was he more of the 25mpg 15ppg jitterbug we saw at times, or the 5mpg 0ppg guy we also saw?
Turner-how much was his shoulder an issue? We saw 20 point games, and we saw complete no shows and games in which he could barely dribble and walk...what do we see this year?
Bowden-up until he got pneumonia he was probably the most consistent guard, you could typically count on him to defend and rebound every night and had a pretty solid offensive game...how much more can he expand on it though?
Daniel-sure he led the NCAA in scoring just 2 years ago, but he also did so but taking a very high number of shots and shooting a pretty bad percentage. He simply can't shoot that much here, so does he become more efficient or is he a lesser Detrick Mostella?
Darrington-had a very nice JUCO career, but so did Devon Baulkman. JUCO's typically take a year to catch up to the speed of the game, sometimes there's the rare case but not often..:exactly what can Darrington be counted on consistently to do?
Baulk is not the best example of Juco progression. He played injured and in pain his entire career at TN.
Darrington loves where he's at. Has the confidence to put it together here. Would have played major D1 had he taken his grades seriously.
He can play both games, pass first or he can put up 40 points when needed.
One thing he said in an interview, he expects to be stronger and quicker because of the S&C program here which he didn't have in Juco.
Loved the kid first time I saw him play, so I'm a little prejudiced, but I expect him to be our most efficient guard by season's end.
That's fair, but even Punter took a year to really blossom, although he did contribute more as a junior than most JUCO's. I'm not saying it's what I expect, just simply playing devils advocate...Darrington was the 14th ranked JUCO according to 247, the last 3 guys ranked 14th: Nuni Omot (Baylor), Mychal Mulder (UK) and Bush Wamukota (Wichita) respectively they averaged in their first season: Omot 11.2mpg 4.0ppg, Mulder 3.8mpg 0.5ppg and Wamukota: 6.9mpg 1.2ppg.
I hope as much as you do that he's a stud, I just have been burnt too many times with Tennessee recruits expecting more than what I seemingly should lol.
