Countdown to Kickoff vs South Carolina

47 days......

Bobby “Flash” Gordon, #47, was a backup to Johnny Majors, until his senior season in 1957. Gordon made the most out of his opportunity, being named All-SEC. His claim to fame was his epic run and collision vs Texas A&M and John David Crow in the ‘57 Gator Bowl. Gordon ran for 1,042 yards and 9 touchdowns, while throwing for 446 yards and 5 touchdowns in his career. He also punted, averaging 47 yards in ‘57. He was drafted in the 6th round by the Chicago Cardinals and helped the Houston Oilers win the AFL Championship in 1960.

Right before the collision with Crow

Puuuuuuuuuuuuuuuukiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

I bore witness in person to the '74 - '78 seasons and the upper deck enhancements of Neyland in 1976 (the year of my first anthropology classes in the bowels of our grand stadium).
Wettest I've ever been was the '78 Oregon State game...and Puki intercepted a pass late to preserve the tie.....

We who matriculated with him appreciate your notice.

Agreed.

Two slices of life in Neyland during that era:

"I said, A BOOM CHICK-A BOOM!"

And the time the game was so boring ('76? or 77?) the cheerleaders had abandoned their platform at the southeast corner and two guys climbed onto it and got the whole place rocking flashing signs that said "Less Filling" and "Tastes Great."

If you look at my UT transcript you can spot the exact quarter when I discovered that cold beer and women were one helluva combination!

At the convenience store closest to campus, a quart of Stroh's was 42 cents. A stroll west on Cumberland, a six pack of PBR was $1.29 at the filling station.

There were a plethora of pretty coeds at UT in the mid-70s... Short culottes and halter tops... Long-sleeve t-shirts (braless) and bell bottom jeans...

Now THAT sounds like the good ol' days. And these days, that cannot be underappreciated.

Someone needs to invent a time machine (preferably a good friend or former student who liked/respected me), and it needs to happen soon.

As Kasey Kasem used to say, "Keep your feet in the air, and reach for the Stroh's"!
