Need somebody to point me in the right direction please. Looking to buy 7 tickets (side by side) to the Charlotte game. The family and grandkids are bringing my 73 year old father up for the game. Thanks in advance!

It wasn’t the prettiest game ever, but when you beat the Hurricanes at the Orange Bowl, it’s still a beautiful thing. An opportunist Defense, that had four takeaways, won the game for the Vols. The Vols only had 170 yards of offense, but mustered the games only touchdown, in the 10-6 victory. The win ended UMs 26 game home winning streak. 178A7903-96E3-4BF3-B515-A54FA7549C34.png

This game was downright ugly. One of the least enjoyable victories ever. Only good thing about the game was we got the dub

After a loss to Alabama, and right before Notre Dame, UT hosted Memphis State for homecoming in 1991. Andy Kelly passed for 319 yrds and 1 TD (rushed for 2), while the backs ran for 284 yrds. Aaron Hayden was the star of the game, rushing for 169 yards and 3 TDs in the Vols 52-24 victory.

Hayden’s 67 yrd score

One of the most memorable wins in the last 50 yrs occurred in 2001 at Florida. A double digit underdog, the Vols, led by Travis Stephens and Casey Clausen, defeated #2 Florida 34-32. Stephens rushed for 226 yrds and Clausen was 17-25 for 168 yrds and a touchdown to BGA great, Troy Fleming.

1958 wasn’t one that Vols fans care to remember, but a silver lining in a disappointing season was the emergence of first year player Gene Etters. Etters would rush for 189 yards and 1 TD (75 yrds to upset Ole Miss) and was 14-31 for 166 yards and 1 touchdown passing. Etter also played baseball for the Vols and would go on to become one of the greatest high school baseball coaches in Tennessee history at The Baylor School.

Big John made his debut at the 1989 Orange & White game. I recall seeing him in the defensive huddle and he was not hard to pick out as he was literally head and shoulders above everyone else.

Years later Elder Son & Heir and I went to see the Titans play John and the Jacksonville Jaguars. There was a whole contingent of John Henderson fans sitting near us. For those who don't know, John was a standout at Pearl Cohn High School in Nashville, just across the interstate from Titans Stadium.

His brother Bobby Etter played for Georgia and the expansion Atlanta Falcons.

A full backfield (James Berry and Hubert Simpson) and injuries kept Terry Daniels from seeing the field a lot, but he was solid when he got his chance. Most known for his 125 yard day vs #18 Auburn in 1980, Daniels finished his UT career with 585 yards on 164 carries and 2TDs. As a SR in ‘81, Daniels was moved to defensive back and then played in the USFL for the N.J. Generals.

I was there in the stands. This game, coming shortly on the heels of a 26-26 tie with highly touted UCLA, was the one which gave Vol fans the notion that '85 could be a very special year. And so it was, but in ways that we in Neyland Stadium that sunny day could scarcely imagine. T-rob would go down to a knee injury in the 'Bama game to be replaced by Darryl Dickey. Vol fans from Bucksnort to Bristol looked at each other and said, "Who?"

Majors went into a shell and the following game against GT was a boring affair featuring a "three yards and a cloud of Astroturf" offense more afraid of making a mistake than in winning the game which required a late Carlos Reveiz field goal to secure a 6-all tie.

According to the "Great Vol Wide Receivers" vid McGee led a delegation of upper-classmen to Majors' office and bluntly told him that they all had aspirations to play at the next level (and they all would) and this sh*t just wasn't going to get it. They shocked the Coach further by stating that THEY had confidence in Dickey and he needed to get his head out of his a**.

The Vols opened up the playbook the next week against Rutgers and blew out the Knights 40-0. The Vols finished 9-1-2 with the sole blemish being a loss to Florida in Gainesville. Florida was on probation for repeated violations of NCAA rules and was ineligible for the SEC title which went to Tennessee who went on to that magic night in New Orleans versus the Miami Hurricanes.

The other thing about the '85 Auburn game will be forever remembered in Vol Lore is Dale Jones looking around in the second half and asking, "Where's Bo?"

Darryl Dickey was named MVP of the '86 Sugar Bowl.
