Count Down Until Dooley Moves On to Georgia.

Some of us were fooled into thinking that we could somehow replace Fulmer without any bumps in the road. Frankly, I still think we almost pulled it off.

If you had told me that Kiffin's hire would have played out this way when the deal was done, I would have given long odds that anyone, much less USC would be ready to give him an opportunity after a 7-6 season.
[\QUOTE]

I don't think USC hired kiffin because of the 7-6 season. I think they recognize that a guy that can come to a place like Tennessee with basically a month before National Signing Day, and pull off a top class is somebody to reckon with. While his coaching skills are dubious at best, his recruiting prowess is not. don't get me wrong, I don't like the guy anymore either, but he will win at USC. I don't know whether I will be more nauseous at ther thought of kiffin or meyer in a National championship game... All that being said, I think the thing that probaly burns my bagels more than anything is the fact that we had his back all the time he was mouthing off.. and then he stabs us. Sorry for the rant. Just had to get it off my chest.

Go coach Dooley.. and Go BIG ORANGE

What is this obsession with a coach leaving after establishing himself here? Are we that insecure as a program? Sure it happens. But Dooley didn't play football at UGA, so why the concern? It's like you don't want to marry a good looking girl because she might leave you after a few years for somebody else, so you settle for marrying your cousin.

LMAO.....you hit the nail right on the head.....the Doo has class...leave him alone and let him "doo" his thing!!!:stop:

Why would he go to Ga they basiclly ran his Dad off.He is UVA graduate and ACC.Before some of you go to negative take a positive pill. The guy came off honest and straight forward. When he said he wants to earn the players trust that sounded pretty good.As we all know talk is cheap but he is our man and if your blood is ORANGE then give the guy a chance.

I don't know where you get your information, but can you give me the details on how UGA ran Vince Dooley off? This is about as far off from the truth as anything I've ever heard on this board. Dooley coached until he wanted to retire, was AD as long as he wanted the job. And he's still the one of the biggest supporters of the university. Maybe you're thinking about Fulmer?

This whole time CDD has been trying to make his own statement. From not playing for his father to leaving Saban for a more challenging job, CDD hasn't chosen the easy way. I think he wants to make his own legacy.

That is absolutely untrue. He was forced to take mandatory retirement. There was a move to change that provision for Dooley. Adams would have nothing to do with it.

Tennessee can outspend Ga if Dooley thinks about leaving in a few years. Plus, Knoxville is a much better city to live than Athens, GA, which is filled with rednecks and music clubs.

Lol, Athens is filled with rednecks?!?! Really, have you ever been there? I travel to Athens and Knoxville regularly on business and can tell you that your assessment is inaccurate at best.

Here's just one poll, but if you look it up, I don't think you'll find many that share your opinion:

1.Gainesville, FL - Home of the Florida Gators ( #41 overall)

2.Tuscaloosa, AL - Home of the Alabama Crimson Tide (#57)

3.Oxford, MS - Home of the Ole Miss Rebels (#65)
4.Athens, GA - Home of the Georgia Bulldogs (#77)
5.Lexington, KY - Home of the Kentucky Wildcats (#78)
6.Baton Rouge, LA - Home of the LSU Tigers (#79)
7.Knoxville, TN - Home of the Tennessee Volunteers (#80)
8.Columbia, SC - Home of the South Carolina Gamecocks (#81)
9.Auburn, AL - Home of the Auburn Tigers (#88)
10.Fayetteville, Ark - Home of the Arkansas Razorbacks (#94 - Little Rock # 150)
11.Starkville, MS - Home of the Mississippi State Bulldogs (#95)

What is this "poll" all about? I actually kind of like Athens personally, but I think gainesville is a hole... and not just because I hate the gators... Fayetteville is a beautiful campus, and the scenery there is similar to the Smokys... so what is your "poll" in reference to?
Now if it is in reference to the number of per capita rednecks... well.. OK.. I'll buy it. :)

By the way, here's an article in the UGA school newspaper criticizing President Adams for forcing Dooley into retirement.

It is an SI ranking of college towns. And a human poll, so it's flawed. I just thought it was pretty incredulous for someone to say that Athens, GA was "full of rednecks". We all have them, even northern, western, etc. schools have some redneck fans, students, etc. But I don't think that many would think of Athens as a redneck town. That's laughable.

One person's opinion, I can tell you for a fact that most UGA fans don't think of it that way.

Dooley was AD for 25 years and in that time he and his wife both had political aspitations. This is a conflict of interest but the university let him call his own shots.

Today, Dooley is one of UGA's most ardent supporters, and he will always be loved by the school and fans. As proof of that, in 2004 he was inducted into UGA's Circle of Honor, which is the school's highest tribute to former athletes and coaches.

If you don't think Dooley wasn't forced out by Adams, I would have to question your fandom. It was one of the most controversial things to happen in Athens and Georgia in a long time. The funding trust for Georgia split off because of it. President Adams is still hated by a majority of Georgia football fans because of his actions. I have absolute first-hand knowledge that Dooley wanted to stay on and actively sought to stay on as AD, but to no avail.

if our rivals end up wanting him then he will have done his job... that being said I got a feeling that this guy has more character than most coaches...

You can say nasty things about my mother, but please don't ever question my fandom! Just so you know, when my family gets together for Thanksgiving, it's an alimni assoc meeting. No less than 8 grads and 2 more still in school.

We tend to gloss over the unpleasant occurances, but I think the Adams-Dooley thing was 1) overblown by the media, and some boosters and alum 2) a necessary rite of passage between a Pres. and a figurehead AD.

Dooley made 2 bad hires, I forget the names , and Evans was really doing the behind-the-scenes work anyway, and they probably would have lost him had the deed not been done right away. Dooley had been AD for over 20 years and the timing was right for him to turn the reins over whether he really felt he was ready to or not. Happens all the time (see Paterno, Bowden, etc)

Now I don't think you'd find many alum/students/fans who don't think that Adams, Evans, and Richt are the right people for their respective jobs. And Dooley is great in his capacity as a great asset for promoting the school and the program.

Congrats on getting a Dooley. I think UT will be happy with the hire if you all let him have enough time to do his job.

ya he will go to UGA sooner or later.. i mean he did do the same thing lane kiffin ddid to LA tech. sooo.. thats prolly his dream job.

Just to clarify, I believe what most people are saying is that Dooley got the shaft late in his career by Adams. No one would argue the success Dooley enjoyed during his tenure and deserves all the respect for it. But the Dooley/Adams debacle is well chronicled.

And Athens is a great college town! I have great memories of my visits there during my time on the Hill.

Agree.
