He SEEMS sincere. But looking back at the threads when we were talking ab Kiffin we thought he was too.
After what happened with Kiffy boy I'm not ready to jump the gun & say he will be here for the long haul. I sure as hell hope he is though.

As someone that observed him at LSU and very close at LA Tech I don't hink you have to worry

THis is aman that loves his dad but has done a different path. He could have played for his dad or used his dads connection to perhaps play elsewhere in the SEC

Instaed he go to the VA and goes on as a walk on.

Further he is a family man. That is legit. He will be looking at stability for his kids as they are entering a crucial age. Plus his wife is a very understanding Doctor/wife that I suspect would like to stay in one place and actually develop a relationship with patients that go past a few years.

Further the Dicoese of Knoxville is a good place as well as the whole Knoxville Tenn feel. I don't expect him to go anyplace else unless he is run out

Tennessee can outspend Ga if Dooley thinks about leaving in a few years. Plus, Knoxville is a much better city to live than Athens, GA, which is filled with rednecks and music clubs.

Burn that Bridge when we cross it but it will not happen. He is going to make his on way and to go to GA would be living in the shadows of his dad. That is not who he is.

My gut reaction was next year...which would doom Hamilton, IMO.

However, considering that VDooley never left UGA for Auburn, and that DDooley went to Virginia, I'm less inclined to think so. Wait and see.

Whoa there Clyde. Athens is one of the most liberal cities in the South. Rednecks are actually a scarce commodity, unfortunately. Now I don't speak for some of the counties a few miles outside Athens.

If georgia wants him we must be doing pretty well. That said I doubt he'll leave us 2 weeks before NSD, plus his buyout sure as hell better be more than 800k

I think it is just a matter of time. I know the Dooley family absolutely hates TN. Vince's wife Barbara has been doing a weekly interview on the Paul Finebaum show for the last couple of years during the football season and she makes one bad commit after another when asked about TN like saying TN fans are obnoxious and making fun of 'fat' Phil. And remember in the press conference when someone asked about his parents Derek said his mother was his biggest influence.

Athens really isn't a bad place.

After the way UGA's administration treated his dad, I think the likelihood of Derek Dooley wanting to going there to coach is somewhat less than his desire to beat the crap out of Georgia and make the UGA president like it.

There will come a time, if DD is successful here, when UGA will have an opening and their boosters will want to bring Derek to Athens. I don't think it would be a problem, though.

stupid, stupid, thread. but just for the sake of argument, i'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Derek Dooley will retire having never coached the Georgia Bulldogs. UGA was his dad's place, he likes to do his own thing, well what could be more independant from your roots than coaching at UT when your dad coached UGA. Believe me, UT is the job he wants.

What kind of time frame should we use... three? four years?

Now Dooley is gonna leave for UGA? I thought if we hired Muschamp he would leave for UGA? Oh wait a minute...If we hired Smart he would leave for UGA?
Man UGA is gonna have a plethora of coaches to choose from.

No, Muschamp appears to have sold out for the Burnt Orange job.

You don't think there is a good chance that Smart wouldn't leave any school for Georgia?.... dumb.

Dooley lands somewhere between the two.

If DD is successful here, he will remain.

Would Ga really be any upgrade? His wife will have set up her medical practice in Knoxville and I imagine she would view Athens as a lateral move for DD and a pain in the ass for her. IMO, DD is done moving if he is successful at UT.
