and fully enjoy the game?
I couldn't.

I tried this one year.
Was trying to be an adult.
So, I'm there with someone I love that loves the Tide as much as I love the VOLS.
Neither of us cheered.
We were afraid to upset the other one and trying to be respectful.
So, neither really enjoyed the game.

After that, I have not and will not go to a game with an opposing fan. I'm sure that makes me immature.
So be it.
Go VOLS! Buck Fama!

A Bammer's relative... you mean, like a brother and sister, or husband and wife?

...or both?

----
Seriously Vfl2407, I'd be like you. People are always more important than things, and as much as we cherish and indulge our love for Tennessee football, it's a thing.

Why is cheering for your team disrespectful when you're sitting next to a fan from the other team?

For me, I just can't scream and high five and act like I normally do.
Maybe, that's just me.
I'm sure mixed marriages have found ways to do so.
I just can't flaunt my happiness in the face of somebody I care about when I know they are sad.

I'm probably fanatical about this, but I made sure my woman was a Vol fan before taking that next step.

I've also ensured my children are surrounded by the Vols and attending the greatest stadium ever at early ages.

To answer the question, no I would not attend a game or sit beside an opposing fan no matter who they are. I get way to emotional during the games and I would end up straining that relationship really quickly.

I tried to watch a game at a friends house who is a UGA fan, did not enjoy. Some people can enjoy that kind of smack talk back and forth on game day and it adds to the fun. I definitly do not though.

Oh c'mon, are you telling me that relative hasn't picked on you once in the last 9, painful years? My wife's whole family are bama fans and I'll probably watch the game with them.

You've gotta be there when the streak ends so they really know who's back on top.

I do it every year buddy. It ain't easy. Half my family lives in alabama. I go down there and visit every year. It's always about the third game of the year. I sit and watch the alasalami game quietly and respectfully in their house. I try to say something positive and agree with what they say (if you don't know, alasalami fans are VERY serous folks when they talk about alasalami). I then always make sure I point out problems with their team. That's when they get real with you. They usually just give you a confused stare and simply say "salami deep." I would NEVER watch the alasalami/UT game. That would erupt into a family feud.

Sir you are not immature. You're a forward thinker. You've learned and become a better person because of it. My in laws neighbors LOVE Florida and constantly buy chit like jerseys and hats for my kids. It was all in good fun until......they taught my 3 year old daughter to sing "it's great to be a fl gator".
It disturbed me to the point that we no longer go to their house. I cannot and will not watch that game with them or any other flo fan EVER! It's against the laws of man in my opinion.

My son-in-law is a big gator fan. We do not watch the games together but text during the game. It is the only way to go as it lets you cheer for your team and still have some great banter back and forth.

Some of my best times have been going to games with rival fans. It has zero impact on my ability to enjoy myself.

It soured a relationship for me last year at the Florida game. He offers me a seat with his family and friends on the Gator Bull level. I was quiet and reserved with nothing more than a fist bump or two, yet was blamed for the way things were going and then when they scored that 4th and 16 he exploded and became aggressively hostile with me to the point he lost his voice. I thought he was going to expire. I was not even offered a seat at the dinner table after the game. I have reached out since but he has not spoke to me since.

At least he didn't die.

I think.

I don't do well with opposing fans during a game if the Vols are down. These games bring out the worst in me, especially the bama game. Last season, I was at a local Buffalo Wild Wings and a lone bammer was sitting in a booth laughing at the TN fans leaving after the game. I sat down in his booth and told him that his sister was cheating on him. It's hard to remember that bammers are people too. They may be a lesser breed of people but they are people. I hate those crimson pricks!
