Could we soon see sponsored logos on the field?

College football is going to be more about money than it ever has been.

"I believe the NCAA is going to allow us to put a sponsor logo on the field during the regular season,” Florida athletics director Scott Stricklin said Wednesday at the Southeastern Conference’s spring meetings in Miramar Beach, Florida. “That's an obvious revenue stream that has not been there in the past. The pro sports are putting patches on jerseys. That doesn't seem like something that's crazy for us to consider these days."
SEC commissioner Greg Sankey, in comments Tuesday, said none of the type of corporate activity being considered by the NCAA committee is new to college sports. “We’ve had jersey patches in bowl games,” he said. “I would anticipate there’s going to be a continuing push (for new revenues), and we’re going to have to come to some agreement in this new environment on where those limits exist.”

Another idea that's mentioned is licensing player names for use in college fantasy sports.

Florida should have a sponsorship from Depends since they always crap their pants or piss down their leg.

I'm not thrilled with the direction of the sport, either, but we have no choice but to embrace it. It's a new era.

I hear you, but I don't know about not having a choice. I'm not particularly inclined to embrace it. I do think the assumption is that we all will; I understand that's how we're viewed.

As with all things, I suppose it'll depend on just how bad it gets.

Fair enough. Obviously, I'm here for the long haul regardless.

Hope not, especially if placed on uniforms. They would uglify our beautiful unis.

Change is hard ... some changes I like (like players getting paid and ability to transfer) while some I personally don't (unregulated NILs and unlimited transfers, 3 in a offseason for some). It will take time to come up with regulations that are compliant with players' rights

I get why they are doing it, but I sure don’t like it. I’ll keep watching it, but sad to see all the changes. The Power T, SEC logo, and checkerboards are the only things I want to see on our field. The players and coaches will have to start mentioning their sponsors like the NASCAR drivers do.

Ads on the field will probably be the breaking point for me. The inevitable next move would be ads on the uniforms.

I already actively don't buy the sh*t advertised to me over and over. The ads genuinely don't work for most people at this point. We're oversaturated.

Yeah. It is important to frame this whole thing clearly, I think. We are the commodity being sold. The schools are selling us to the advertisers, or more accurately, the access to us. Each school has spent a hundred years building their relationship with their fans, and now they're finally fully ready to sell those relationships off to the highest bidders.

It is the inevitable arc of any popular thing in our society.

I think we already have field ads. Might be wrong as I practically never pay attention even to hold up signs telling the QBs what the next play is. But I think I have seen promotion boards on fields already, and on jumbotrons.

Clearly they do or else millions wouldn't be spent on them.

All the players' uniforms will be festooned with so many product logos they'll look like walking billboards.

Imagine what Oregons uniforms will look like . All I can think of is one main sponsor and a thousand little stickers covering the rest of the player . Everyone will look like a small NASCAR 😂

I don’t care for it, it’s too NASCAR. But….it’s inevitable so if money is spent making parking and access more convenient, I won’t be torn up over it.
