Now that the Wolverines ousted Tommy Amaker, would they go in the assistant route?? If so, I would think that Tony Jones would have to be at the top of a list for assistant coaches. Plus, his recruiting efforts this past year in the upper midwest, getting Ramar Smith out of Detroit, and his past coaching jobs in Toledo and Buffalo give him strong ties to the areas Michigan likes to recruit. I don't know if they would go the assistant route, but if they would, Jones would have to be at the top of a list. I don't think Jones could pass up an opportunity at Michigan.

If offered it would be very hard to turn down. I hope he stays but I have a feeling we might lose him somewhere.

I really don't think Jones would get a job like that right now. Coach Edgar was a solid assistant as well and ended up at a smaller school. Either way, within the next 3-4 years, Pearl could have 3 of his first assistants moving on to HC positions. That speaks volumes about him.

No offense to Tony Jones, but that would be one of the worst hires in the history of college basketball. Michigan hiring a guy with no head coaching experience would be like IBM hiring someone fresh out of community college to be their CEO.

That's why I said he wouldn't get a job like that this early. He will get one in the next 2 offseasons, but, likely, a job similar to what Edgar got last offseason.

Scott Edgar also had previous D-1 head coaching experience at Murray State and Duquesne. Jones has none.
