Even Finebaum mentioned it today without going into a lot of details about it. Said he had also heard he was allowed to resign and not be fired if the buyout could be renegotiated. Works out well for UT and Butch and still saves is around 3-4 mill. If Hart or Hamilton had been handling this he would have resigned and given Butch a 2 mill bonus on top of the original buyout.. We definitely have the right guy as our AD finally.

Did he read it on Volnation.com? I hear that place has got the drop on breaking news..

We need to get the Venerable Venables. Only coach that knows how to beat Saban. Wins wherever he goes. Killer D. Was a killer LB when he played. Coached under Snyder and Stoops. Killer Recruiter. The next Kirby Smart/Jimbo Fisher. D wins in the SEC. hire whoever as OC Tee, whoever. You'll have to pay him the big bucks tho. But it will be worth it.

Cut has a few years at most in him coaching IMO. I have no idea if he would want the ut job if offered and I can guarantee he won't be offered the job for various reasons and if they did he wouldn't accept at that point.

Tee Martin isn't coming back for less than a head coaching job period/end of story.

We miss on tier 1 of coaches available, as we tend to do. Could Currie swing a package of Cutcliffe on a 3 year deal, contingent upon bring in Tee Martin as OC/Head coach-in-waiting.

Before I get flamed, I know there are a lot of moving parts involving, but this roster has a lot of talent for Cut to work with, while Tee gains on the job training
!

Uh...No.

Might as well keep LAJ is the best we can do it Cut

I really don’t understand the hate for CDC.

Won a SEC west title at Ole Miss

Won an ACC Coastal Division title at freakin Duke.

Had a 10 win season at duke

Coached 6 quarterbacks who played in the NFL.

David Cutcliffe can coach. He is an offensive genius.

Lol..I'm guessing probably not. Be doesn't come off as the roaming through message boards kinda guy. I know he's still got a few contacts in TN but he keeps it pretty quiet.

I don't either. He's one of the best QB Developer's you could ever ask for. He's a great playcaller and he was to Fulmer that Popped was to Jordan. They needed them to win. We haven't made it back to Atlanta since the year Cut came back as OC for Fulmer. His downside is he doesn't like to recruit and he's very loyal to a fault to his assistant coach's. That can be good or bad. He wouldn't bring the type Coach's he would need to win and recruit at TN. They are great for Duke but his guys aren't the elite recruiters with don't take no for an answer mentality. Cut is one of my all time fave Vol assistant coach's but I don't think he would be more than an a 8-9 win a year guy. If he had been willing to "SEC" his staff he would have gotten the job here years ago. He's comfortable at Duke with little to no pressure to win any kind of Championship. And with his past heart problems I don't think this job would go easy on the ole ticker.

People, you need to think about the real possibility that there are many, many coaches out there worse than Butch, and we have a very STRONG possibility of hiring one of them!!

I am also of the opinion that it is time to let him go, but that doesn't mean our woes will stop. Remember a guy named Dooley? It can happen again.

I kind of like it if we do strike out. Tee needs to be here.

Not sure about this,I wouldn't let Butch coach a high school team. His offense is offensive.

That scenario would not end well for UT. I think Tee is more than 5 years away from being ready to be a HC at a power 5 football school. He's not even an elite OC at this point he's got a long way to go. Not sure coaching under Clay Helton is exactly speeding up his development. Their coaching hires have been even more headsratchers than ours. USC is an elite job and they hire former Pete Carrol rejects that were just as much part of their probation problems. Kiffin and Sark in particular. Helton isn't any better than those 2. They should have no problem getting an elite top 5 type coach. And we thought our past AD's were clueless.

Power 5?

So because I don’t want him here I hate him? Y’all are funny.

He’s a great coach. He’s just too old and won’t come here with the expectations we have. What he’s doing at Duke is better than they could ask for (or likely will after).

Oh, I agree. But the pressure to get rid of him is only going to get worse. And we have just enough chowder heads down here to do something really stupid to make the point. So, this team needs to turn things around. Fast. Whether it saves anyone's job or not.

Keep Gillespie, bring in Matt Lueke to coach OL, get a stud WR coach\recruiter and keep Shoop.

To me this could be the best case scenario if we miss on a rockstar.

GBO! Flame away!

Hell no!

Cut won't and shouldn't get even a sniff.

While we can do worse, the odds are much more in our favor this go around. On paper we have the talent. The admin side is in much better condition and the perception of a quick turnaround exists to lure higher end coaches than our last hiring process

No he definitely does not.. Atleast not as a HC. He's not even an above average OC and hasn't been an assistant long enough to know how to run his own program. He's still learning how to be a college assistant coach he is years away from being ready to be a HC.
