Could the Arnett situation hurt recruiting?

Didn't coach Dooley say he would have released Brown if he had asked in person? Is this a similar situation?

From what I've read, Arnett hasn't had a face to face meeting with Dooley in awhile, and e-mailed him asking for his transfer. I guess the family thought it was proper to have him send a pathetic letter to national media sources degrading UT before meeting with CDD once he gets back on campus.

There is a bigger question and it pertains to the silence of one Derrick Dooley. He must openly address this situation because it looks like we talk out of both sides of our mouth. No problem in taking Bullard but a problem allowing Arnett the ability to play where he wants. The problem is that it opens the door about the discontent on the team right now that Dooley is incapable of handling. He is one of the worst Div.1 coaches in America hands down. PS we can't afford to lose OBrien over this fiasco. You would think going into your third year a good coach would have things settled down, not true with this clown and Dave Hart is watching closely, just wish Dooley would take his money and go home to Mommy.

Its dumb and uninformed statements like this that hurt recruiting. Not our coach, who is doing what every other coach would do. Ignored.

I also ignore all Dooley apologists and you are one of his biggest. Keep apologizing while he takes our football further in the tank. Never seen a UT team quit totally like the Kentucky game, remind me of your excuse for him?????

Answer my question about Bullard if you will. You ranted and called Dooley a hypocrite for taking Bullard and compared it to what he is allowing or not allowing Arnett to do.

I just caved and ignored him. The only reason I hadn't already is in case he comes with another gem like my sig.

I disabled sig's a long time ago but I'm sure if it's a quote of his it's pretty stupid. Fiji is pathetic. I used to get worked up and quote his posts but quickly realized he's completely lost and it's not worth the time.

You would think he would have learned from Brown and met with Coach Dooley face to face.

yes Bullard walked on last year but the financial situations with Bullard and Arnett are not remotely similiar.

Not sure why this hurts recruiting at all. No kid commits to a school with the intent to transfer. Why would this affect a recruit's mindset? They don't worry about being released from their scholarship so they can transfer to another school.

Whatever.

I lost some respect for Arnett after reading his letter. No matter what happens, that was classless.

This is what UM and MSU posters are posting on 247.

"Your coach is a joke we all know it, and that is why your program is falling off the face of the earth. Why shouldn't Arnett get the chance to play for a BCS school, and get to be close to his dad? BTW you are about to lose O'Brien over this. Good luck ever getting another kid from Michigan the high school coaches here are about to tear Dooley to shreds. I don't understand why Dooley wants him to go to the MAC it wont be long before he is coaching there that is if he is coaching anywhere."

So Michigan and Michigan State fans are mad because they can't claim him. What's new?

..NOTHING TO SEE HERE. Fans are mad cause they want him, and can't/won't get him, OBrien isnt going anywhere (VFL), the sky is blue, and Fijivol is still a crackhead.. :clapping:

The ESPN article, negative press, etc...is hypocritical. Saban flat out cuts players on a regular basis, even multiple per year to backfill with the latest and greatest recruit, and nobody brings any of that up.

This is the rules. Compared to what Saban does every single year, this shouldn't even be a story.

JMO.

funny, when brandon warren was trying to transfer to tennessee, the good people at florida state were a bunch of ***holes for not letting warren transfer.

but, when tennessee does it to a kid, a kid must honor his commitment.

this is bad all the way around and people can say what they want, but it's proof positive that adults at most all of these universities truly don't give a damn about the kids.

and the reason given by tennessee is utter and complete BS.

arnett going to michigan or michigan state wouldn't cause any problems for the university of tennessee in any way shape or form.

at worst, tennessee might meet michigan or michigan state in a meaningless bowl game.

and yes, a player on the roster posting pictures on facebook of his father with tubes coming out of his chest won't do much to warm over the hearts of prospective recruits and their families.

especially since a lot of the recruiting done by tennessee is on out of state kids.

can't believe tennessee wouldn't just let him go and be done with it.

for a smart man, dooley is pretty stupid.

Agreed, I was just expecting far worse based on the reaction from some on here. Also, the letter seems to imply that he has spoken to Dooley.

I was under the impression that he went home for break and emailed Dooley asking for his release. There were reports a few weeks ago which said the situation had settled down a bit and he was going to stay.

I just think he has ulterior motives. UT can't afford to set a precedent for things like this either, where anybody who's unhappy can use a sick parent as a copout.

What about the next kid that wants to transfer? And after that? And after that?

This situation in a vacuum stands out to let him go. Bigger picture, however, dictates otherwise. Say what you will, but Dooley and the admin need to look out for interests of the program.

We'll see if this actually does affect recruiting this year. I bet it doesn't.

It's a school policy dumbarse. If they change it for one, they must change it for all. Why is a troll in this argument anyway. If we were talking about the same issue with Florida, you'd be on the other side of the fence. shut up and gtfo
