Could knoxville fulton beat Maryville?

anyone who follow high school football without actually in high school or having a son on the team needs to take a look at their life.

What a brilliant, doofus statement! :shakehead: How about the small communities that have pride in their local activities, of which high school football is a part. Or even alums who probably follow their school several, or even many years after graduation, among other reasons they might have. You're a real heavyweight thinker.

99.9% of the time my money would go on Murville. But not in this one. This Maryville team will go on undefeated and win the State, it's a fine fine football team. But I'm not sure I'd say it's the best Maryville team I've seen. Fulton is the best I've seen in 10-15 years in East Tennessee.

Keep sheeping it up.....

This is a well thought, reasonable account of what might happen.
Maryville vs. Fulton

And I still don't think they could beat Alcoa. *troll on!*

I liked it for you....in the same sense I would like General0Star's posts. Fulton would slaughter Alcoa, smash Maryville, and beat anyone you wanted to place in front of them statewide. It's funny people even mention this team in the same breath as existing teams from East Tennessee this year. This is an all time great team from this area. If I'm gonna compare this Fulton team to anyone it's not gonna be current teams. Include Greenville in that because they will murder Greenville this year too. And I respect Greenville. But I would have to compare this Fulton team to the 93-94 DuPont High school team in Charleston WV that had Randy Moss, Bobby Howard (Notre Dame, Chicago Bears), and Jason Williams (NBA). Also a couple different Shaw HS teams from East Cleveland Ohio that my uncle Bruce coached. Or a couple of the Glenville HS football teams in Cleveland Ohio. All of these teams I've named would smash Maryville, Alcoa, Ensworth, MUS, etc. these are all time great teams I've seen from different areas. I'd put Fulton in that category, I think this years team is on that level. I'm not a Fulton fan either. But they are a well oiled machine and built rock solid from head to toe. It's gonna be a while before we see a team like this around here again.

I personally don't think it is a foregone conclusion Fulton would "smash" Maryville. We will never know, but I would never count out Coach Q. Fulton is definitely better on paper and has more athletes, but discipline, good coaching, game plans, etc. are very important as well.

I'm certainly not saying Fulton isn't well coached because they have one of the better coaches around, but Maryville is the best coached team in the state.

I think it would be a good game and could go either way. Too bad we'll never find out.

Based off of the BlountPressRow... Enough said! By the way no one asked about Alcoa because they are a non factor in the conversation. You scored 2 points against Maryville and you think you could run with Fulton? Go talk smack to Some team you actually have a shot at and leave this conversation to the big boys!

It is a shame that we don't get to see this matchup between these two great teams. Both teams have earned the right to be called the best team in East TN and even the state. Both have some work to do to win the State in their respective classifications and I'm sure that's all they are worried about right now. Maryville fans will say that they are the best and the same can be said for the Fulton fans. I for one am proof of that. I make no bones about who I pull for. So that being said I think we should just pull for both teams as well as the other teams that have a shot from this area. It makes no sense going back and forth about this because their not going to play. I still think Fulton would get them but that's what makes me a fan!! So good luck to all the teams from this area and we(Fulton) will see you at TTU!!

When Fulton actually beats Alcoa, you can have some run....
But, let's address that other stat in today's paper.
Fulton's graduation rate is 79.6%??
Far and away the worst in the county.
But you sure can play some football.

You are a clueless instigator. It is certain that Alcoa doesn't have a football team full of Phi Beta Kappas, in fact, the opposite is true. And boy, Alcoa can really play some football as well. You need to grow up.

Instigator, yes...
Clueless, don't think so.
Murvil and Alcoee have been losing games in the Imaginary Football League for decades.
But we never seem to lose on the field.
Funny how that works.
(That grad rate is almost the same as Fulton's PPG avg....)
My work here is done.
Go Alcoa.
Amen.

Sorry to say this over and over but Alcoa fan doesn't get it..... Can't beat Alcoa if they refuse to play!!! That is enough said!!! You play every year and all of a sudden Alcoa doesn't want to play!!!!

Bottom line is that Fulton would have hung their normal 60 points on Alcoa and Rankin knew it.

Again you don't hear anyone saying anything about Fulton and Alcoa playing because we all know that Fulton would kill them. You can't talk smack when your team didn't want to play. Live in the past all you want, say what you want, but everyone knows Fulton would have absolutely no problem with Alcoa.

The shot has been fired....lol. Anyone having doubts about this Fulton team suffers from extreme homerism. They would beat any team put in front of them from the Tri-cities to Memphis. I've seen all the good Maryville teams. I've seen some good teams from other areas. Fulton is one of the best I've ever seen. The Oak Ridge Teams in the early to mid 90's were pretty darn good. They would give Fulton competition. But none of these current local teams would hang. That doesn't mean that traditionally they are a better PROGRAM than Alcoa, Maryville, etc. but they clearly have one of the better TEAMS.

They clearly are one of the best when they are hitting on all cylinders, as they have been all year, with the exception of Sullivan South, with which Fulton struggled (not being able to put them decisively away until the very last of the game), for the first time this season. A bit similar to how Maryville struggled with Bradley Central last week.

I think they were looking ahead to Greeneville tonight. Lot of mistakes they don't normally make. I bet they had over 100 yards in penalties tonight. Plus conditions negated their speed a bit. If they have another game like that next week it's Greeneville's game to win.

Steve Williams, sportswriter for the Knoxville Focus, a local community newspaper, had an interesting comparative article on this Fulton team.

These Falcons on track to become Knoxville

They still have work to do. That's for sure. I remember those AE teams from the 80s ( I was very young). I know the article is about Knoxville but I also remember Alcoa had a team ( maybe 1990) that was pretty darn good. Those are the teams that stand out to me. Is this team that good? Don't know. Time will tell.
