Could it be Chaney?

So, what would compel Chaney to leave a title contending team for UT? Other than history with the program (different coach)?

Could be something as simple that he and his family like the Northeast TN area more than they do Athens. If it's true that he still has his house here in the area maybe they're looking for a place to finally stay and Knoxville is that area.

Some pubs did. I know at least 1 had him as a 5 star. Can't remember the name of it though. Another had him as the 53rd best prospect in the country, which is around where Crompton was rated in the final rankings that year.

daughter and vacation home all the same, I still dont get why Chaney would leave a (current) title contending team for a team in the SAME division with a busted OL and new head coach where he probably wouldnt make any more money than now. Unless the guy likes to be hard on himself, I just dont get it. He's not getting a promotion, and most likely not a raise and definitely no titles at least for a few years (if Pruitt survives) plus he's already been on the UT ride once before.

Could be something to why Kirby hasn't extended him. These decisions are not always about who has the best the team or even how much $ alone.

Do you know what his personal relationship is with Kirby Smart? Me neither. But if it’s not great, that along with an expired contract could be a pretty good reason.

The prophecy is becoming real

So you're thinking ETSU poaches him?

Seems like Smart is positioning Coley to be his next OC and Chaney's choices are to take a demotion or move on to a better school and position for himself.

950k at Georgia vs 1.2 million (Helton's rate) here.

Plus Coley getting QBs probably doesn't help his warm & fuzzies.

Well that's different I guess. If Georgia doesnt want him, then of course UT makes sense.

BREAKING: Sources confirm that Jim Chaney has informed Kirby Smart of his intention to resign as OC and accept the same job at Tennessee. Negotiations are ongoing with Sam Pittman and James Coley but an agreement could be reached as early as Tuesday.
