Honestly, I didn't think it had a chance until I really thought about it. Dooley has tons of connections and now at a destination job he can really put them to work. We won't know really until the other names but it really could shape out this way.

HC- Dooley vs X =To be determined(TBD)

OC-Chaney = TBD if chaney is the better play caller than X so right now I say push

LB-push with Lance

WR - Baggett is 10 times the WR coach Wilson was

ST- Russell is more highly regarded at ST than Gran just hasn't been on the National stage like Gran for public to notice..Dooley is very involved as well

DB- Garza/Joseph - two is better than one and rumor is Joseph would be strictly RC but labeled as corner coach due to NCAA rules which is a smooth move by Dooley to have a guy strictly focused on recruiting

DL - O vs potentially Garner...O beats pretty much anyone here as much as I hate him but Garner is no pushover with his list of players either

OL- Searles?? vs Cregg = Searles in SEC terms would be upgrade with his connections/relationships and job he has done patchworking OL at GA...Cregg got lots of help from Browning and Chaney

DC- ??? vs Monte -by name and experience Monte will edge out most anyone but he is getting old and at times was exposed late in the season...Bumpas results wise could be considered an upgrade but not in recruiting circles

QB- rumored Chaney will be in charge which makes sense if we have 9 assts??? vs Reaves...whoever we get is likely an upgrade..Chaney is def upgrade

RB- ?? vs Gran - Gran gets the nod and would be hard to top him

TE - will likely be Russell as well with Dooley and Chaney helping out.....Dooley produced Robert Royal and Randy McMichael among others vs Cregg

Gran is better than he showed but always had average to above average stats for his ST...Russell has had some of the best in his conferences and in the nation at times

I think it can better than the old coach's staff. Baggett seems like a great hire. The Guy's got a great resume. By the way, whether Dooley wins a lot or not, I like him better than our last coach. WAY more respectable and i don't think we will have any trouble with the ncaa with Dooley. Anyways I really like his personnel choices so far.

Maybe better coaching-wise, but def missing on the big NFL names for recruiting at HC and DC, though. We had several NFL guys who made lateral moves from the pros to here for last year. It was crazy.

I think old staff would be slightly better than CDD's. That said, CDD's is nothing to spit on. I'm surprised we are in the position we are in. Five days ago I thought it would be much worse. Baggett was a good get.

I almost would love for us to offer Blake at UNC. Big reputation...phenominal recruiter...going to a traditionally bigger program... a football school. Would be cool to snag him out from under Davis...and tick Brandon Willis off for de-committing. :)

I see Baggett as the only upgrade - good hire. I agree that Russell is at least a push and a definite upgrade potential. DC will not be better. Chaney is a stretch at OC - if this is true we can only hope for the best. Other position coaches are wait and see.

If Joseph is RC then this is nothing more than a cruel joke and a poor pick.

Searles would be good for recruiting, with his GA ties. However, GA has struggled on the OL for last few years. Much of that has to do with injuries, from what I understand, but not sure how much of an upgrade Searles is from a purely coaching standpoint.

For all of X's blustering the team was 7-6. Most of the losses could be attributed to the side of the ball X was responsible for. Special teams never got fixed either.
The next staff is shaping up to have just as much star power .

Agreed.... Monte was the obvious crown jewel of the last staff but he couldn't do squat with a team that didn't play a pro-style offense..... Any derivation of the wildcat/spread put the lie to his supposed prowess..... Any time a 165 pound RB that is as brittle as McCluster is carves you up to the tune of 200 plus yards.... Well.... The names may not be blockbusters but I think the results will be very satisfactory in time.... I'm cautiously optimistic about next season.

If Bumpus becomes DC... that's about as close as you can come to a wash with Monte.

I know O got alot of praise for being a top notch DL coach but I didn't see grand improvement on the DL other than those brought about by schemes.

Guys, Monte did fine until he ran out of LB's. Don't get stupid with all of this... he's a top shelf DC, maybe the best in football. I just hope UT replaces him with another good one... and not someone like Chavis.

Not quite...when you consider 17-20 in the WAC vs. 12-21 in the NFL/SEC. Best case scenario is a push.

you are looking at the context of the numbers, which is the logical thing to do. in a vacuum, 17-20 is clearly better than 12-21.

when the carpetbagger brought his stellar 5-15 record to the hill, many put it in context by saying, "but it was at Oakland."

so to add some context to CDD

1st year inherited a 3-9 team, took them to 5-7. not bad, maybe as good as our going from 5-7 to 7-6.

2nd year went 8-5 and made LTech's 2nd bowl appearance in history. this is at least equivalent to getting vandy to a bowl, while one writer has said it is equivalent to TN winning the SEC.

3rd year lost 6 starters to injury, and ended up playing 18 freshmen and sophomores. we saw first hand what the injury bug did to our season. despite this, had some good performances (LSU and Boise St), kind of like us against the bammers and the Gators. 4-8

don't get me wrong -- i would much prefer that CDD bring in a 35-2 record instead of 17-20. i'm just not conviced that 17-20 at LTech is a harbinger of doom.
