The fact that CJH started Milton instead of Hooker told me everything I needed to know about his ability to evaluate talent.
How is this still a talking point? Practice is all a staff has to evaluate a player by and everyone that saw those practices said Milton won it going away.
Hooker is more of a gamer instead of a practice performer. Probably another reason he’s out of the NFL currently.

After the spring game Volnation was pissed cause Harrison Bailey wasn’t the starter. That told me all I needed to know about this boards ability to evaluate talent.

Players are motivated by different things. Some only are worried about the money, others about an NFL career, some may play hard in hopes that it may attract other programs to take notice before the next portal, some may be because they grew up as a fan and would never leave.

I wrote in another post that questioned how did Vandy and Indiana have unmatched historical seasons, both in the same year? These are 2 of the worst D1 programs in the NCAA. I heard Vandy had 20 or more portal players. If so, had anyone else ever heard of these players or were they highly regarded? I believe they did receive some moderate NIL money, but it looked to me they were motivated by having something to prove.

I’m not saying we need to go out and get scrubs, but it may make sense to have someone on staff to do a little homework and try to sort out overachievers, if possible.
Over the last 2 years, Indiana has played 4 teams that ended up ranked in the final regular season CFP poll. They have gone 2-2. One of those wins is over 23rd ranked 8-4 Iowa this year. Over that same time span UT has played 7 teams that ended up ranked in the final regular season CFP poll. We have gone 1-6.

They are a decent to good team that has benefited from having a surprise breakout star at QB and playing a weak schedule. Sounds a lot like Vandy, huh? By the end of the year they will add at least 2 more ranked teams to their resume (one will likely be a G5). Let’s see how they do before crowning them.

Heupel crushed Joey. Go back and warch Him during Georgia. Heupel put handcuffs on him.
Joey is a turnover machine but he also can make amazing throws. Heupel trusted his kicker against UGA and he should have won it. Hell the kid made the exact same kick in OT that he had just missed. Heupel made the right call, it just didn’t work out. That’s life.

this could be a bad thing. When i played if i done something wrong i got yelled at.
Not that it matters but playing at the Middle School or High School level is not comparable at all what the college game entails. Don't think about things from your own personal experiences and look at things of a scope from the experience others might of had. There are multiple ways to coach. There are multiple ways to parent. There are multiple ways to motivate and inspire. Many parents believe spanking and yelling is the best way to parent. I have found my success with discuss, thinking, and pushing for self awareness of my children's actions to help them understand and grow as an individual. Likely both types of parents will come with pros and cons as the result and parents style can be flexible based on the child themselves and the needs they have individually.

Our players, not all of them, are not executing and playing like they should. They lack that drive and motivation. I think you are right. The money and portal have created weak players. I am so sick of people only blaming the coaches. At some point you as a player have to want it and want to be the best you can be.
This is program culture. Just ask Vandy. They are getting more out of less.

These people are getting paid lots of Nil money now.Are they afraid they will injure themself and not make it to the NFL or afraid some else will take their place? When a QB calls out his team for not practing hard i think its a major problem with the whole team coaches and strength and conditioning people.

This is a take I keep seeing and it’s just as bad every time I see it. When you have one player clearly practicing better, they get the shot. Hooker also hadn’t shown anything at VT that he did at UT. Coaches don’t know about gamers until games but if a HC plays players who practice worse than others at every position, they won’t last long.

He’s also the leading passer in the SEC. Heupel’s play calling suffered as the year went on. I think because he was struggling with how bad the defense was. Either way, Joey was the victim.

He was in a position to win, but the 3 runs up the middle after the Stockton strip sack still haunt me. We had Georgia on their heels at that point. To me, you got for the jugular and end it. But I’ve spoken ad nauseam about it in several threads so I’ll quit.

Butch Jones was very animated on the sidelines. He also shaved every day, kept his hair cut the same length at all times. I don’t recall any of that helping.
Dooley seemed to have the hair spray and creased orange pants. Now Cornbread on the other hand dressed like an elementary gym teacher that just had all of his students over for a sleepover.

He is to laid back with players and his coaches--team discipline is an issue and has been or standards are ever wavering so there is no standard. it comes back to coach H, again.
You're probably right, as evidenced by all the arrests, team infighting and such we have seen over the last five years. It's amazing we have been able to win 45 games with a team full of players in a culture with no standards or discipline.
