Could Chaney make JG another Crompton?

You do remember the Sullins twins, right? Not to mention he took Aaron Douglas as TE and turned him into a Tackle for his freshman year. Pruitt has more to work with, especially on the OL

I and others keep harping on the one big difference in these guys and guys in the past. Those past guys had a good over attitude and a will to win that just seems to be missing with our older guys of today. We have guys that have been moved and some, of not most, are doing their best. However their best is less than good enough for the most part. But they are trying.

I have never understood the love affair with Chaney...back when his name was being kicked around as OC, I looked around and the highest ranked offense I could find that he coached was 34th I believe and that was at Georgia with a offense full of 5 stars. He has coached multiple offenses on multiple teams that were ranked over 100. I didn't like him here before and I didn't like the hire this time. He's just not a championship OC.

I think they will switch to Maurer, but not until after the 5th game. That kinda locks JG into staying as a back up.

Attitude and discipline seem to be the weak points. I have yet to see any player having fun or showing any real excitement or emotion, other than maybe Jennings. Are there too many "Bad Cops" coaches and no "Good Cop" they can turn to? Not sure what the issue is, but there is a definite attitude problem.
That then further shows in the lack of discipline. Not to defend Guarantano, but his interception was from the WR apparently not running the correct route. UT make a whole lot of stupid plays that just show lack of discipline.

Not unless the Lane Train comes back to be QB coach!!!
If you remember back in Kilffin's yr, Crompton was just like JG right now but he and Chaney stuck with him and all of a sudden the light came on for him and they upset UGA and went to a winning season and a bowl game. This is not a JG support thread just looking for some kind of hope at QB with a similar situation. With the 2 backup QB's not any better than JG right now seems changing QB's is just changing QB's with no better results.

I get the argument that the season is a dumpster fire anyway so go with the future. But is Maurer the future?[/QUOTE

The Team needs Tennessee Pride, and Pruitt has none to give them. The only exciting/hopeful, and I might add successful time in the Florida game was when Maurer was in the game. If Pruitt puts JG in the game, the Team knows Pruitt has quit, just as we know it. How do you think that makes them feel, the ones who bust their butts in practice for hours, for what? If Pruitt puts JG in the game, he doesn’t just lose the fans, he loses the Team.

Agree.. But not sure which one was wrong on the route. A route can be decide by what the DB is doing thereby dictating the route and causing a miss read by the QB. Miss read --- where have we heard this before. I know, JG seemed to "call" out the receiver after the play on the sideline, but who knows, he could have been saying "I thought you were gonna do this, why did you do that?" Who knows, they could have both been wrong. I will say this, JG seemed to have time to see what the receiver was doing,,,, one of the only times he didn't hesitate all day...

We've all seen the JG movie, the television series, and the cartoons. There's nothing left that we haven't seen and its mostly really, really bad. Coach Mauer up, get Shrout ready as much as possible, and lets start focusing on life without JG. JG is done, finished, ka-put!

I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt, but NO. I'm thinking it's time to move on from him, hate it, I think he loves TN. Unfortunately, at some point, you have to produce on the field.

JG may have the ability to throw a football and hand it off.....hell I can do that. He is lacking football acumen. When the lights come on, he goes off. He also lacks leadership. Have you ever seen him on the sidelines taking to or encouraging teammates? Nope. He sits there with a long face. Manning was always on the horn to Cutcliffe or talking to his receivers / O line. JG is done.

JG lacks Football knowledge

He has talent, just not the ability to use it. It's like the kid that does great on everything except tests. His brain goes into vapor lock when the pressure is on
More like a lawyer that had great law school grades, but completely freezes in front of a jury. Two different skill sets and not everybody has both.

I remember Chaney saying that he intentionally threw everything in the playbook at JG. In hindsight, that may have been a bad move. JG has not been able to handle it. Probably should have been brought along slower. Even pro QB's have to be brought along slowly at times. The game just looks too fast for JG now. He's thinking too much and not reacting. May not be salvageable at this point. AND, I think Chaney's play calling has been atrocious. Our OL is noticeably better than last year. We have among the best WR corp in the SEC and we can't move the football as well as we did mid-season last year. That's all on Chaney.

I disagree with Chaney's playcalling being atrocious. I actually think he's put them in spots to make plays, especially in the BYU and Florida games. They just can't execute.

Yes, Chaney throwing everything at JG was probably a bad idea. JG simply cannot make reads. When you look at him on film, he plays the position as if before the ball is snapped, he's got his mind made up where he's going with the ball. The ball is snapped and he locks onto that receiver. If that receiver gets open, he makes the throw, but he's late. If that receiver isn't open, he throws it anyway or throws to his check down, even if said check down is a yard behind the LOS on a 3rd and 12. He plays the position like a 7-year-old plays Madden.

Different situations. JC had a lack of knowledge and how to. JG has a lack of passion and want to.
Disagree with that. The kid will stand in the pocket and take a hit to deliver the ball. That's not a lack of want to or passion. The kid cleared his academic schedule to devote full time to football. I see passion and want to. I just don't see results. I think Chaney overloaded JG mentally and he couldn't handle it--Chaney's mistake. It may be too late to correct the problem.
