Could 2017 economically be 2007 all over again.

Which is why I didn't call it either smart or stupid. It would probably be a stupid approach if your thinking is that the status quo will always be like this and you can coast out the remainder of your time between now and retirement on that strategy. Smart would be realizing that you may want to prepare for a change or a paradigm shift and may want to move in a different direction while sentiment and prices are low.
I am already retired, so I am mostly investing for income, with less emphasis on growth. I have already changed.

Brick-and-mortar is dead like see years pennies so for fast food restaurants will be replacing workers with automation/robots in the very near term

damn, man...
Will you at least give Schiff credit for his 2008 collapse call?

I picked up his book "Crash Proof" on a layover in 2007. Finished it in two days. I put it down and knew he was right. Made some changes that protected me. He's not necessarily just a goldbug, he believes in investing in businesses in other countries/currencies that are more stable.

My industry has been bracing for another big downturn. We are still thinking it is to come in the second half of the year. first half looks pretty good but long term we aren't sure.

We are thinking its not much on the economy downturning but we are thinking the zero to little interest rates dries up and we see real rates return. there will be a shock when that happens but hopefully it is actually allowed to fix itself this time.

2007 was very different than what's going on now. I'm not saying we couldn't have a downturn but it would be nothing like 2007. Look around and compare it to 2007. The only thing that feels the same is the stock market is at all time highs, which happens a lot...

Stock market at all time highs, a debt that has doubled in the last 8 years and the "Too Big To Fails" have gotten even bigger...

That's my big concern over the next five years or so. The debt/GDP ratio becomes a systemic problem as we print (borrow) more money to pay the interest on borrowed money. That should work out well.
