I wanted to start this thread to see if people could offer real insight into what they see from our secondary play from a technical standpoint. The X's and O's of the game really fascinate me, and I have intermediate knowledge of most of it, but I never played so there is a wall as far as that goes.

If anyone on this board coaches, played corner, or talks to people who played at a high level and have offered opinions on the corner play of our team, I'd really be interested to hear what they say.

Is it really basic technique that is beating them, which is coachable, or are they just not talented enough?

This isn't a bash CTJ thread, I just want honest observation.

Mods, if there is somewhere this discussion is already taking place that I couldn't find, please merge it.

Teague is getting beaten on a lot of deep routes. He seems to do pretty well on the LOS, but he can't catch them once they get by him. He simply isn't fast enough.

Can't teach speed.

Teague unfortunately is a better tackler than others who are better in coverage. That is the only reason that I can comprehend on why he has been left to start and stay in so many games this year ahead of other cover guys.

Agreed. Waggner seems to be the best cover man, also the fastest, but he is pretty small and a weak tackler... if only we could combine Teague and Waggner:yes:

Having played corner the most of life I can of offer some insight . I didnt see the bama game good friend had a wedding (ya what was he thinking lol) . And I can't see film so view is limted but it look like we get beat alot time when in man and our technique go to hell. For example against GA Teague plays Mitchell with a outside postion (which is off the line turning hips out basiclly playing the sideline) when he had no inside help . In man this very bad beacause you cant turn you hips that fast . Any corner playing that postion no matter how fast would get run by .

Answer his question then instead of responding very douchily to a dickly comment.

I would if I had coached or played corner. I have not so, I was hoping to see an educated response from someone who knew what they were talking about. Unfortunately I got to see your comment. Such is life.

Not saying Teague hasn't been burned, but lack of safety help over the top has also been an issue, like Wilcox said, safety has to be there to help and he hasn't.

Plus you have to play with a air of confidence almost and be ready to compete like CDD said. That why the Frosh is getting snaps Justine Coleman. Teague sometimes loses his back there we they throw it over his head. You have to have a short memory

So you have nothing to add. Typical. What a douche.

Hopefully the coverage will be better at least. If we miss a tackle or two, then that may just be gamble to take but I'm tired of watching our DB's (Teague, Teague and Teague) get burned.

Teague has been burned on long pass plays because he will backpedal and by the time he realizes the receiver is on a fly route he is already toast. You backpedal when you want to quickly change directions like covering a slant or out, you run laterally to cover the deep ball. He just does not react quick enough, I imagine coaches see this in tape and just have their receivers run hot routes based on his footwork.

Finally some people seeing the same thing I have been seeing.. I mean Teague wasn't getting burnt deep last year... Oh wait.. JJ was playing Safety... It's not a speed issue either.. I mean even in the GA game he got burnt on the post route by 10 yards and still ran him down at the 10 yard line to save the TD... I feel bad for the kid because he switched to position to help his team last season and now they are benching him on stuff I don't believe is all his fault.. They should switch him back to WR... We all know he can catch better than Z rogers and he runs solid routes...
