That is the question

I can tell you right now, cornbread is to be eaten without sugar

Sugar is for cookies and cakes

I want my cornbread made with cornmeal, buttermilk and bacon grease

I dont want egg in my cornbread, cause I want it so dry it will choke you to death without a big glass of sweet tea to wash it down

Yankee cornbread is an assault upon humanity, and those who produce it should be punished as if they have committed a hate crime.

I am an old hick. No sugar in my corn bread.
Let it get room temperature, cut off a big old piece, break up in pieces and put in a glass, fill with milk, add some black pepper to taste and enjoy. Right there is some good eatin'

I love cornbread, especially at cracker barrel, though they use too much butter.

I haven't used cracklings, but I have made jalapeno cornbread before, with a little syrup on top. Can't be beat.

I'm a Southerner and love Southern food, but for the life of me I can't understand why anyone likes cornbread. Crapbread would be a better name.

Honestly, I don't see why people get bent out of shape about cornbread (sugar or no sugar), chili (beans or no beans) or any other recipe. I can enjoy the full spectrum of flavors and it doesn't bother me one way or the other. Some people just need to relax, live life and enjoy. I'm sure if a little sugar got in their cornbread or some beans fell in their chili, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

So lets see, we have had beer snobs, steak snobs and now cornbread snobs. What is next? Cole slaw snobs?

Cole slaw is meant to consist of cabbage, vinegar, and a little bit of sugar as a base, with the only acceptable additions being small amounts of spices (celery seed and maybe mustard seed) into the sugar/vinegar mixture. Anything beyond that is an abomination.

No onions, no carrots, and especially no mayonnaise. And may the Almighty take mercy on you if you ever think of using Miracle Whip.

No sugar in my cornbread. No vinegar in slaw. Southern girl, born and bred. My momma knows it all.
