I have seen on here so many threads on how JG sucks and can’t play or we played awful and this is ridiculous. Granted there will always be people who are going to hard on their team unless it is a 35-6 victory that goes for all FBS fan bases.

They said on SEC Nation that during the win streak the vols have won 4 games within one score, so winning regardless of how you play.
UGA played like absolute crap in the first half so let’s not be quick to judge.

Let’s look at this year as not your normal football year. This was not like we played 3 warm up games and looked pretty good in those then laid an egg. They didn’t even have spring practice just like USC. They didn’t have all of their practices and scrimmages they were suppose to have. Most of the WR were not 5ere for the ones they did have I think Pruitt said they missed an additional 3-4 practices. There are players each day that are out because of contact tracing. Even Pruitt said they played good in spurts but “they were not ready as a team to play at a high level”. We are not ready to play at a high level right now. If we can play good enough against Mizzou and build confidence we can play against UGA. LOOK at all the upsets that happened or should have happen in the top 10...... this is a different year guys it’s not your normal year and you have to take the first couple of games with a grain of salt. If by thr 3-4 game still doing the same things them YES.....YES...... we need to complain and belly ache

What kept going through my head last night was...as THICK of a skull as JG has...which seems to KEEP HIM from getting the ball out and on time...

He has REALLY almost endured just about EVERY situation at QB that one could endure...so...his cool, calm demeanor is EARNED!

And he has screwed up...BUT come back and MADE PLAYS to WIN MORE THAN just about ANY QB I've EVER SEEN!

It pains me to say it, but JG hasn’t progressed much in his five years here. His ceiling is low, and I believe he’s reached the ceiling.

Props for not making awful decisions and turning the ball over. On the other hand, he missed a lot of wide open passes. It seemed like a dozen by the end of the game. The JG criticism is valid.

Do we not have another QB on the roster who can hit an open man in stride? This is one of the fundamentals.

I agree
the poster you replied to mentioned how terrible UGA played until they turned it on. Guess what the only change they made was at QB replacing a 6' 6 " 5* RS Freshman with a 5 foot 11 inch former 4th string QB that just executed and got 1st down after first down. Thats what is needed, it feeds rest of team keeps D on the bench and opposing O on the bench where they cant score.
I agree with your last statement also we need to recruit better at QB or somebody is not coaching up these QB's. It's either we are missing the IT QB or we are like UGA was with Fields not putting talent in a place to succeed. Kirby stayed with what he thought was safe choice.Which IMO cost them a Natty.
We should win again next week hopefully we can build some confidence. GO VOLS

I never want to see our Vols lose a game. It hurts to see them play badly that I'm almost like a kid and want to close my eyes till the play is over. It was hard to see JG miss those throws so badly. I think I could have missed those passes closer than he did. Yet he turns around and makes an outstanding play. Hard to figure, but I still like JG.

Actually, I didn’t see the same timing issues on throwing late that we saw last year. He threw high a bunch and behind some but not because he was late. In fact, that last TD pass was likely not something we would’ve seen last year. That was a beautiful and well-timed throw. We need to figure something out in the red zone though. He really struggles down there.

Gosh, I didn't see him hit a single receiver in stride. Not one. 🤔

Quarterback talk is going to happen unless we are dominating the scoreboard, every season.
I am just happy we have a FOOTBALL coach! You know, Pruitt's cool head won that game. We have seen too many close ones slip away.
Gotta address 2nd half poor performance from everyone.

Amen brother! I’ll take that win any day. Cardiac kids these are. JG...one good drive, one great drive, one WTF, drive. Jeremy Banks...how is that running to the top of Newyland and back a few times doing for you. Just a couple bone headed plays erase a dozen game winners. Beat Mizzou. Thanks coaching staff. VFL. PEACE OUT.

He missed a lot more than he hit. You are choosing to live in denial, my friend.
Not denial, "my friend". I just choose to look at the results. Was he off, yes, did he fall back to the "hold it too long" mode a couple of times, yes. Was he off target of some throws, definitely. Did he do enough to allow us to win the game, yes. According to several of your ilk, no other stat matters that a W. Make up your minds. He completed ~62% of his passes, threw for 259 yards and had no interceptions. Superstar stats, no, but well above average for a season where practice, which does make perfect, has been at a minimum. He shows signs of understanding better. He has a stronger arm, but doesn't have enough touch yet to control it. He made good passes, but can he start making great passes. We will have to see. This week's game is against a really bad Mizzou team. It should tell if JG improves from game 1 to game two or not.

I agree and even pointed out in the post you responded to that his decision making is better. Outside of that, he didn’t look much different from last year:

1) missed routine passes on numerous occasions

2) stared down his intended target

3) no touch on his throws

Same issues as last year and I think he’s at his ceiling. Your counter argument seems to be “gosh, he hit one receiver in stride so what are you even talking about?”

His stat sheet looks better than the actual performance thanks to some screens and a few big plays. Look at third down conversions....awful.

JG is a serviceable QB who will look like a superstar in a game or two this year. Outside of that I think he’ll be very inconsistent and will struggle with the same issues he’s had since 2017. He just hasn’t improved much. He’s a RS senior.

We are looking at 5-5, or 6-4 at best this year due to the level of QB talent on this team. We may have better talent in the pipeline but it clearly is not evident as of yet, especially if they can’t beat out a very average senior QB.

What's maddening to me is that early in his career when he was getting sacked all the time, he seemed to be pretty accurate when he would actually throw the ball. Now he's making some quicker decisions and it seems like he's throwing to the right receiver...but he was throwing high and behind open guys. I hope he finally puts things together next week. From a confidence and decision making standpoint, he looked a lot better. His lack of accuracy killed drives and helped keep SC in the game.

A 5th year-senior that can't hit a receiver who was "wide open" (according to the announcers even) is a problem. Just like Iowa State, if we trade QBs last night....UT probably wins by 24 points.

You have been anti JG all along. Stats don't matter to you unless it is a win...and that doesn't even matter to you when it comes to JG. Like him or not, and I know you don't, he has been a key cog in the now SEVEN game win streak. 'Nuff said on my part. Enjoy the W by the team and stop finding things to whine about. I am happy we won and that is all I have to say on the matter.

Shrout and Maurer can. Did it last year.

For those of you defending JG, be happy. Based on JPs complete inability to recruit Nd develop a QB so far, you have 2 more years of enjoying him.

Where are you getting 5 losses? Florida and Bama—ok. But UGA looked rough on offense and will be dealing with which QB to play. aTm got taken to the wire with Vandy. UK took Auburn to the end as well. Out of those 5 games, 2 are totally winnable and one is a tossup. UF and Bama looked to be heads and tails better than anyone else on our schedule.

6-4 should be the worse we end up and 8-2 is the ceiling still.
