I live in Longview wa, and football here is not nearly as big as it is back home (Oak Ridge class of 96). So this time of season it's hard to find good high school without driving all the way to the Seattle area. I decided to take my family to one of the local high school games the RA Long lumber jacks were playing Vancouver college which is a high school out of Vancouver Canada. While watching the local school get drilled my wife spotted a fellow fitted in UT gear. My wife said I should walk up to him and say " Go Vols" I thought heck yeah, but by the time i looked up he was gone. So time goes by and the son needs to use the bathroom. On our way to the bathroom i run into the orange clad fellow, and I give him the "Go Vols" and he replies the same. I asked him about his affiliation, and he states that his son plays for our beloved Vols. I was a bit taken back at first. Then I ask who and he says Johnathon Kongbo. Initially I couldn't understand him because of his thick accent, so I asked a second time and he more clearly states his sons name. His son ( Jonathan's little brother) plays for the Canadian team and also wears number 1. After a bit of small talk I ask, what the difference was between Butch and Jeremy. He says that Butch was more concerned about being cute, whereas Jeremy's approach is the polar opposite. He's had a chance to attend 2 practices this fall and told me that our team is being hugely underestimated, and expect a totally different team tomorrow. I know the comparisons between the 2 coaches are common knowledge, but it was just great to hear this sort of news from someone that has had a chance to experience the change on a personal level. He said Kongbo changed his number so that him and calloway could play special teams at the same time. GO VOLS!!

Man I’m excited to see a different team, not different players but different style. Also would absolutely love to see a team/coach that doesn’t back off the opponent when we have a lead. Great teams don’t do that. If the backup come in for mop up work they play the hammer down as if they are 50 down.

Right on brother! Me too. I think we're going to finally turn the corner, and the bleeding will finally stop.

I was in the Home Depot in Huntsville Texas this morning. The guy in front of me at the checkout, a dude in his forties I'd guess and sporting camo gear, spies my Tennessee cap and asks me who's gonna win the UT-WVU game. Of course I say Tennessee! And he goes on about how he and his buddies think so too and how he likes Pruitt. I tell ya, I can't wait for kickoff tomorrow!

Very cool!!

Oddly enough this is the first time it registered to me that his first name is Jonathan... I have no idea why.

With a quick skim through I read Canada and Johnathon and I thought for sure it was a story about Jonathan Crompton. After a reread, not about Jonathan Crompton at all.

Very cool story . I drive for a living and i use to be shocked when I would run into Vols fans across the country , but it happens so often that I just expect us to be everywhere now ( and we are ) . Can also confirm the best way to find out if that’s really a Vols fan is just yell GO VOLS, if there’s one around you’ll get a reply . Lol

Attitude is everything. I expect to see a completely different attitude on the field today vs the butch era. Go Vols!

That is a great story made even better because it supports our expectations. It also supports what I have heard Jayson Swain(sp?) saying. Butch -cute. Jeremy -football.

you couldn't even make a story up like that. And even it you could, it would still be cool!

Good for you OP> I'm pulling for number 99 even more now!
