Cool story bro

So I was talking to my father-in-law the other day about his time playing college football. He was recruited by several big schools back in the day and I asked how the process went.

"Well, I first visited UT and really liked the campus and Neyland. It was close to home which would have been nice.

I then visited Auburn and I liked it as well. Alabama showed no interest in me.

I had a few call and letters from various places like Virginia, etc."

I asked why he didn't choose UT.

"Two reasons really. One they had a brand new coach that I really knew nothing about. His name was Doug Dickey and he had literally just gotten there when I visited.

Secondly, I got an in home visit from a Wake Forest coach that I loved and that sealed the deal. I signed with Wake right away."

Me: who was the Wake coach?

"Beatie Feathers"

Even though their team wasn't great, Wake ended up being a great choice for him. He got into law school there and had a great experience.

He played o line and spent his first season blocking for Brian Piccolo.


Maybe not a super cool story, but I'd never heard him mention Dickey and Feathers before.

A better story than what my father in law told me. His high school team was down 3 TD's in the state championship and he ended up leading Polk High back to win the game throwing 4 TD's in one game. Highlight of his life, they named his high school field after him.

Cool story, Just don't let that distract you from the fact that in 1966, Al Bundy scored four touchdowns in a single game for the Polk High School Panthers winning the City championship game........

What this story says to me is continuity, continuity, continuity; as it applies to UT today, we need to get people and policies in place. Todays kids have more ways to know coaches, ect. before meeting them. If they like them in a one on one meet, then they and their families and other advisors start to look at the program. That's where we are in a sad state right now. Can't blame a kid and his "team" for not being comfortable with UT right now....

I never thought Kelly Bundy would settle down. Nice catch, man :)

Of course, Al Bundy was a FB, not QB.

here is a cool story bro as well.....my wife and I were mulching our yard on Sunday and Randall Cobb pulled up into my neighbors driveway because he was dropping his future father in law off. Talked to him for a couple of minutes.

Everyone I've known that spent time in Winston-Salem smells like tobacco. Does your father in law smell like tobacco?

Disagree. UT has shown good faith to hire folks that at least act like the players are the most important aspect of the program. Dooley( I've heard that Dooley coined VFL) hit a home run with VFL. The only problem is he was suppose to be a football coach.

Student athletes are in good hands at UT. Integrity goes a long way with honest people.
