When visiting a home you must remove your shoes and be very complimentary of the dwelling. A gift should also be brought for the hosts and you must leave the home before 10 p.m.
 
The age of fifteen is when most begin to date the opposite sex and the average age of marriage is twenty-seven.
 
Marriages are traditionally arranged, but that is now changing. Only about 30% of today’s marriages are still arranged. Weddings are almost always a spectacle and very complex.
 
There is almost always a working father and a housewife mother. The belief is that women belong in the home and women that do venture out into the workforce are usually only given very low-paying jobs.
The Japanese wardrobe generally consists of Western-style clothing and only during special occasions is traditional dress worn. Traditional clothing would be: a robe with long sleeves that is wrapped with a sash and can be designed with a number of styles.
The main diet in Japan consists of rice, seafood, vegetables, fruit, and pork – all in small portions. Noodles are considered a good snack and they do not have dessert with their meals. Tea and beer are the common beverages during most meals. Three meals per day is the standard with dinner being the most important which is served between 6-8 p.m. American fast food restaurants are also becoming popular with the youth in Japan.
