I honestly wonder myself what the future of gaming is. Growing up in the early 80s and having an Oddessey, Atari 2600, 7800, and then onto NES by the end of the 80s I was in heaven with these great games. Now, here we are, around 23 years after the original NES made its debut. We have these great realistic games with awesome graphics right now and I wonder how much more can they do?
I guess they can continue to make AI smarter and smarter and improve multiplayer games. I could see a future of being able to play something like Grand Theft Auto in a full city full of real people playing in the virtual world. Instead of having 16 people in a room you could literally have thousands. Other than expanded multiplayer games and better AI though I don't know how much further they can actually go. I'm sure there will still be minor tweaks each year to make the graphics look more and more polished but its not huge leaps anymore. Just go back 15 years and look at a Madden game compared to now - really big jump in quality. In another 15 years how could we possibly jump that much more?
