Contract clause for Dooley

Unless Georgia fires Richt and the President, I could not see Dooley going there. I believe that Daddy Dooley did not leave UGA on good terms with the current President or maybe it was the AD.

I would think that UGA would throw their money at Will Muschamp who played there. We will see. If Dooley starts out 4-0 next year, he might be the guy they target.

IMO, Georgia is the only place Muschamp might be willing to leave Texas for.

The fact that there are threads discussing a current coach leaving for another school prior to holding his first practice says a lot about the state of Tennessee football, and the fanbase that supports it.

Mike Price????

Probably $5 if he leaves more than 3 weeks prior to NSD and up to $10 if less than that.

He has to coach at UT. You can't expect anything more than having him here. It's hard to recruit, we play in the SEC, Florida and Alabama are good, and we fans think we should win.

Be realistic. We're just lucky to find anybody who'd risk their career under such circumstances for a mere 2.5M a year.

Geez... you guys need to remember that we are only UT.

Dooley strikes me as the type of guy who likes to do his own thing and make his own way. Going to UVA as a walkon, quitting law, leaving Satan to coach LA Tech are all examples. Following Daddy's footsteps back to UGA does not seem like his way of doing things.

He grew up with a championship program at UGA like none we've seen since. That had to be good memories for him. Athens is a pretty decent place for a Saturday football outing.

Whether CDD would go to UGA or if UGA would come after him is irrelavant.

Business is business, and if we (our AD) really believe this guy is THE guy, then we need to tie him up real good with a considerable buyout.

WHY? If he is a success here, if it's not UGA calling, it will just be someone else.

Same goes for any and all coordinators and assistants.

Oh, and by the way, make sure they ALL actually sign the contracts.:disappointed:

Just my humble opinion that probably ain't worth the internet it was printed on.

Like none we've seen since? I kind of recall us doing in 1998 exactly what Georgia did in 1980, which was the only season Vince Dooley won the national championship at Jawja.

As far as memories go, DD was part of a national championship at LSU a few years ago, too. Are we going to also worry about him moving to Baton Rouge when Miles takes the Michigan job at the end of the coming year?

I'm not going to say he'd never want to coach at Georgia. But I am sure he wouldn't want to for the current leadership.

For the life of me i can't understand everyone's concern about Coach leaving for Georgia.

Georgia is not a better job than at Tennessee. You young folks should compare the history of the two programs.

more about the confidence in the AD's decisons

Buyouts are overrated. The presence of a buyout didn't matter when K-boy went west, did it. Pocket change, from the school's standpoint.

On the other hand, consider what happens when a coach wants to leave but a buyout is in place. The coach might go duck-hunting rather than chase recruits.

The Dooley truck will be in Knoxville for MANY years. He will surpass Fulmer in wins, S.E.C. Championships and NC. I am drinking the Dooley-aid and it sure as hell tastes good!

He hasn't even coached a game yet so give him a year or 2 before we start speculating on wins and championships!

To clarify, my intent was none we've seen (from Georgia) since.

Thanks for letting me know we won a NC at UT in 1998 and that Alabama's coach won one at LSU before the one he won at Bama.

I don't think AD's are as powerful as some here seem to believe. They can be fired just as easily as can a coach. If UGA fans want Dooley and they have to rid themselves of some liability in their AD office to make it happen, so be it. At UT, we can't seem to cut our loses in the AD office.

How good will he have to be to even get an offer from UGA? It seems they will go after Muschamp or Kirby Smart first... really no reason for Dooley to go anywhere. He's not a mercenary.

Until the day Michael Adams is no longer the President of UGA, this whole thread is completely moot.

I don't think you have to worry about him going to GA, one he is always been a man that followed his own path, I think you have to worry about LSU more than GA, but my opinion is that if this guy has success he will stay at TN.

Folks Dooley is not Coach X. He has character and honor. He would never leave early. GO VOLS!

This. But, I'll say it again. I don't see him going to UGA EVEN IF Adams is removed as UGA president because I don't believe that he would want to constantly be compared to his father. Just my two cents.

It's funny what X has turned us into. DD has been here for less than 1 month and we're already talking about how he might leave us...
