I'm sure someone has already mentioned this, but what would be the point of hiring Danny White? Was this not Fulmer's plan to promote Steele? If you're just going to be ok with Kevin Steele, why not keep Fulmer?

If Tony Elliott got a raise and is staying at Clemson. Won't surprise me at all if it's Steele. I said early on if the NCAA violations are severe we may be 5 years and 2 coaches from recovering.

Years later. It wasn't the next season. Oh, and he wasn't named interim because they were unable to hire a coach. He was named interim because their coach was forced to resign during the summer. That's a false equivalence. Their situation bears virtually no resemblance to ours. They also weren't trying to hire their sixth coach in 15 years.

1. UT's administration is a mess.
2. The program is going to have likely NCAA penalties, scholarship reductions and potential bowl bans hanging over its head until an NCAA investigation is completed (could be multiple years although the school will likely self-impose penalties in the near-term in hopes of mitigating harsher NCAA-imposed penalties)
3. The team's roster isn't competitive in the conference and is likely to have many of its top players transfer out
4. Recruiting over the next several years will be incredibly hard due to the issues already named combined with the strength of the competition
5. The results on the field are likely to be horrendous over the next few years due to the poor state of the current roster and the aforementioned recruiting difficulties
6. The fan base is going to be prepared to tar and feather you when you aren't able to place in at least the top 3 of the SEC East each year (and even that won't save you after Year 3 in the program).

The thing that will be interesting to find out in the future (if we ever get a true answer), is whether we had offers rejected by Hugh Freeze and Lane Kiffin, or if our administration never made offers to them (which would be a colossal mistake had they actually been willing to accept the offer).

the administration doesn't appear to be a mess anymore. jury's still out but i don't think it's much of a concern going forward.

UT likely won't hear anything from the NCAA for a couple years. By that time, it won't even matter because lets be honest, the ncaa is a limpdick organization. just look to LSU and Auburn if you don't believe me. Even if they wanted to flex on us, i'm confident our new AD will manage to soften any sort of blow they try to land.

the rest of your bullet points--bring me chadwell or kiffin. two guys who seem to do more with less.

Exactly. White is being paid real money to make this move. He isn't going to come up here and just reaffirm something the previous AD had already done. White will name a permanent head coach some time this week, and it won't be Kevin Steele.

This is exactly right. Promoting Steel now could be disastrous for recruiting. Ole Miss promoted Luke because they let go of Freeze weeks before the season started. If we promote Steele then what may be the best in-state class we've ever had will be wasted because we've put an interim tag on a coach that may or may not be here in 12 months.

The reason LSU and Auburn aren't getting squat from the NCAA is because they have completely stymied them and refused to cooperate. We invited them into our investigation, which suggests to me that we are about to fall on the sword.

...And his buddy Phil will have his hands all over the program...makes sense, knew the hammer was gonna fall and had to get his “conduit” to the team in place.

We need a complete reset. Continuing to do the same thing over and over expecting different results is the definition of insanity. How many times are we gonna do this?? UT excels at making millionaires out of coaches who fail.

I just have memories of hiring Dooley when we should’ve made Kippy brown interim for a year while a suitable coach could be found.

All that said I hope White makes the best decision. He has a good track record, we just have to wait and see.
