Just wanted to drop by and say congrats with the hiring of Coach Dooley. I believe he will represent the UT nation with respect and pride and is a coach with professionalism. I know that 99.9% of fans want a coach that wins and I can't predict what that will be, but there is no doubt in my mind he will get UT straightened out if they give him time.

I will leave you with a post from Tidesports.com

""""Tennessee folks should be glad they have him. He's going to represent them with class and not be a national embarassment. He will do things the right way. He won't be taking shortcuts and he's going to build something they can be proud of.

He's going to lose his ass this next season though, because Kiffin's recruiting didn't address their main immediate needs.

Also, he has a ton of dead wood, thugs, and jackasses to straighten out. "The Process" will take care of that.

If they'll be patient with him, they've got someone they can be proud of now and in the future.

I hate them a little less now and I think I can respect their program again. They should have never brought that other trash to the SEC. I think they are on the right track now."""

Good luck and here's to the great games UA and UT will have in the future! :toast:

I was thinking of starting a separate thread on this earlier but will just do it here since it is related.

I can't believe it, but I would like to thank especially SOME Alabama fans and a few others from other SEC schools. I thought the crow would be served up cold and "I told you so's" as thick as a brick but for the most part, opposing fans have been sympathetic and even upset on our behalf. Mostly classy from the visitors lately. Thanks.

Thank you for the comments. Very nice of you to reach out and give some props, thank you.

As for how he will do, well....he had better hit the ground running. Behind the 8 ball.

Well at least the rest of the SEC won't totally despise this guy. Then again they all liked Fulmer too.

Classy post aside, I think Bama and Florida are breathing a sigh of relief because what was a dominant Tennessee program on the rise has now become a non-threatening nice guy who will never challenge the current powers.

There is a reason the surrounding SEC schools are not bashing this hire, their to busy licking their chops. I now do not know who has the worst coach in the SEC, Kentucky w/ Joker Phillips or us w/ Bubbles the Clown Dooley.

I disagree and believe you are off base. Give the guy a chance.

If you really break it down, there is no doubt that Kiffin can recruit, but 7-6 is far from dominant and he was going to get UT in trouble pretty soon. I think most of you would agree with me on that. I'm not trying to flame by no means, but I am serious when I say I am glad that UT hired him, and yes, he will compete with the current powers because UT will get the players, and with Dooley doing in the right way, young men will want to play for him.

It's also a lot easier to like a nice guy, rather than a douche who just runs his trap and then bolts in the night. Again, congrats on the hire and good luck in the future Vols.

I have no choice and will "give the guy a chance"... by that I mean, I support him and Tennessee always. But supporting him has no bearing on the fact that the rest of the conference is "happy" about this hire for a reason.

That is right on the money....they are all happy because they know they will be able to pound UT for the next 5 years or so with no problem.....they know UT will a easy W for them....yeah UT got a nice guy but nice don't win ya games.....

No, I don't agree- I wish I could agree but the truth is that Kiffin will most likely win multiple national championships at USC. And I, for one, will look upon that with jealousy and resentment... I will not appease my mind with things like, "Well, at least we don't have very many secondary violations."

I'm not sure why you think Kiffin will have that kind of success. The sanctions USC's facing will at least put a dent in his ability to compete (which could include some new penalties for infractions committed when leaving UT and, perhaps, some penalties for us as well). Supposing it takes a few years for USC to get back on the level, will Monte still be around to cover his short comings as a coach? I've always thought we hired Monte instead of Lane, or, at least, without Monte there would have been no Lane.

That is safe to say about USC, but honestly, I think Mike Shula and Phillip Fulmer could probably win national championships at USC.
I will just leave it at that and still say congrats on a great hire.

Ok, well, thanks anyway for the classy post. I won't say "Roll Tide" but it is obvious that the Tide will Roll.

It is a side day when someone from Bama has to correct our posters. I agree 100% now that I have had days to reflect over the whole thing. WE will be better off. Thanks for keeping our knuckleheads in check.

I have supported the Vols for 40 yrs, I don't support this hire. I hope I am wrong in judging this new hire but based on his resume, nothing strikes me as ever having any moderate success. Under Saban when he was given the title recruiting coordinator, the players came for Saban not Dooley. In the NFL w/ Saban he failed, at La Tech he failed.

Dooley replaced Jack Bicknell Jr who went 16-20 in his last 3 yrs compared to Dooley going 17-20. Bicknell spent several seasons after LaTech as OL coach and is now on with the Giants as their Asst OL coach. Let me put that in perspective, the whole offense for the Giants combined were out rushed by Chris Johnson of the Titans this past season.

I can't speak for Gator fans, but you're way off base when it comes to BAMA fans. With the exception of very few, we never viewed Kiffin as having the VOLS program on the rise. In the media yes, but not becoming a dominant program at all. The prevailing thoughts on UT from most BAMA fans' perspective was that it was extremely dysfunctional and a slow motion train wreck as long as Kiffin was there. I'm not saying that to flame, just setting the record straigh on our perception of your last coach. That being said, in the long run I think you'll have more success against BAMA with Dooley than Kiffin. Maybe not next year, who knows. That's why you play on the field. I don't ever want to lose to ya'll, but could stomach it better if it were to a coach like Dooley than a fool like Kiffin.

Kiffin would not have killed the program. He would have made enemies, but he would have won. He'll win at USC.

Either way, BAMA fans didn't believe that and weren't worried about him. That and congrats on Dooley is all I'm saying.

Are Bama fans honestly at all concerned about the new guy?
Not in the short term. However, he seems to do things right and shares a lot of characteristics with Coach Saban. I think he'll do better than Kiffin would've, but it remains to be seen how he'll turn out.

I know much is made of 17-20 at La Tech, but tell me, honestly, who could win there? I think if Coach Saban himselt went there, they'd quite possibly have multiple losing seasons. Considering the timing of your coaching search, it's an excellent hire. Had you been able to start in November, then you might've gotten a bigger name.
