Conflicting rumors all over the place...(Kevin Sumlin)

Kind of like Dooley feels like at his press conferences?

It's must be true what they say, you can't fix stupid. Enjoy the next coach that leads Tennessee to even less wins. Maybe you can come back and try your B comedy routine on that coach as well.

I used to think that, but they've been too consistent too long for me to really believe that. They really just beat down Georgia this year. I don't think they've proven to be a national title quality team, but I do find it harder and harder to discredit Peterson. I'd still take Patterson over him, though. I'm very confident in his coaching ability and I'm comfortable with him recruiting, too.
Peterson's record isn't what makes him the number one candidate for me. He has most of that record over inferior opponents. When he does have a big game though he takes inferior talent and makes it overachieve. Boise has lost a few games but they have overachieved against superior talent like Oregon, Georgia, Oklahoma, Va Tech and the like. His teams are always prepared for big games. That means more to his resume than kicking the crap out of the creampuffs in his conference.

That coach will have to go 0-8 in the SEC to surpass that feat.

Cool, so you admit that you are cool with 5 win seasons, even though we are firing a coach for having one. Sound logic!

I can name hundreds of coaches that can go 1-7 in the SEC.

It will be great when Tennessee doesn't employ one of them.

And by saying neither a coach nor player is bigger than the University of Tennessee doesn't mean I'm "cool" with a 5 win season.

Beating up on Buffalo and Montana isn't hard to do.

For what its worth, John McClain said on 104.5 in Nashville that he had heard that Tennessee had been "flirting" with Sumlin. So, yeah, I am not the only one that heard this.

I for one don't want to see Sumlin here, it is something about these coaches that only eat n sleep offense is that they don't have good defense it would be just like hiring dooley again.

The problem is Dooley is neither a offensive mastermind or a defensive mastermind, he coached special teams under Saban so I guess he is a special teams guy.

Yup... his major area of expertise appears to be the long snapper and the holder. I can't recall an error all year long with either of them. Please correct me, if my memory has failed on acknowledging what our investment hath brought.

I would be much happier if I heard we were trying to bring in Peterson (they say he stays in Boise largely because a specialist in his son's disease is in Boise...well, there has to be specialists likewise in UTK's Medical system or at least in Nashville with some of the best Healthcare/Hospitals in the country there) or Patterson.

But Sumlin is a pretty hot name right now. He turned that program around and has had them winning (had a bad year last year, with their QB hurt, but returned with a vengeance this year, and now they are undefeated...even beat UCLA, when we couldn't). His resume is leagues better than Dooley's, and I think recruits/players would be all in favor of it. Dooley, is, at best, a huge question mark and walking on thin ice.

I know nothing about McClain, emain. Is he credible?

I for one would love to see Dooley gone and Sumlin hired. He's a winner; 12-0. What his offense won't work in the SEC? That's what was said about Urban Meyer when he was 12-0 at Utah. I'm not saying Sumlin = Meyer, but the vast majority of fans would be thrilled to trade Dooley in for him.

I would of rather Hammy hired Sumlin 2 years ago. I don't want him now. No more small program coaches.

yea but Peterson a native californian and ucla is more likely the job for him. Don't think I would want him either those Biose coaches don't seem to do good at better program (hawkins, Nutt)

He is Houston Chronicle beat writer. Yeah, he is in the know sometimes. 50/50 or something. Likes to hear himself talk. Better on pro football than college.

I'd take 50/50 on flirtations as better odds than the 5-10% chance last night.

If we're flirty, we're hiring.

We're flirting because of the UCLA element in play. If Wilcox leaves, there will be major change on the hill.
