Conference Championship Game's Downside

If Kansas wins out they will have beaten 2 top 5 teams at the end of the year and will be in the BCS title game no doubt about it. Wins over #4 Missouri and #3 Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game would do it.

I agee, win a major conference, and be the only undefeated team from a major conference--you cannot deny them the NC game. Just another reason we need a playoff.

I'm not sure that if Georgia wins their next two games convincinly (?sp.) and if UT should beat LSU by more than a touchdown that Georgia doesn't get the at large bid for the BCS over LSU. Remember 2001 we were #2 and headed to the Rose Bowl until LSU beat us in the SEC championship. We didn't even get an at-large BCS bid (Florida got it) and we played Michigan in the Capital One bowl.

My point is; I think the loser of the conferences championships should not be penalized for losing, and thatthe BCS Bowl bid should be decided before the championship games.

Yet another reason we need a playoff.

Sorry to knock a hole in this, but if you selected before the conference championship games then you might have UT beating LSU and LSU still going to the National Championship.

The BCS purpose, besides making money, is to match the #1 and #2 teams in a bowl. The rest of the bowls are still looking for the best matchups to make money. As we look back through the history of the BCS, it may not seem fair that alot of highly ranked teams get passed over for teams like Notre Dame... but its the price that is paid to get a 1 vs 2 matchup.

I would hate to go back to the days when bowl teams were selected in early November. I still remember the Sugar Bowl matchup with Virginia. Virginia was a national title contender (ranked No. 1 at the beginning of November) when the Sugar Bowl selected them. They then lost 3 of their final 4 regular season games and were unranked when they played the #10 Vols in the bowl game.

that's a good point. the only difference between LSU this year and us in 01, LSU has been in the top 3 all year, and no. 1 twice this season.....we got as high as #2, the last week of the season after beating FL......whether or not that makes a difference, well, let's just say i hope we have the chance to find out.........:)

I agree. The biggest problem with the BCS IMO is that the rankings are still based on polls where favortism, jealosies, and lack of full knowledge of some pollsters comes into play. Plus the problem when there is no clear-cut consensus #1 & #2, just like this year.

Man, that was a great finish to a ballgame! We trailed all night and Andy brought us all the way back!

My projection, at this point, is that two of the at-large BCS teams will be Georgia and Texas, teams that did not even make it to their respective championship games. I think Tennessee will beat Vandy and Kentucky and lose to LSU, while Oklahoma will beat the winner if the Mizzou/Kansas showdown.

I really think the BCS should not penalize the teams that are second in their conference i.e. losers in their championship game, but should be required to select the team that is the higher ranked in the BCS poll before the conference championship game. Obviously, this year Georgia would be likely selected over UT but I don't think Texas would get in.
I did hear some talk on tv the other night that winning the SEC championship game would provide just enough leverage for LSU to make it into the N/C game this year over other one loss teams.

I will agree with that point..The loser of the championship game should not get so severely penalized though. Its almost better to not go at all if you dont win. If both UT and GA win out and ut looses to LSU .. GA will get to go to a better bowl game. (likely a bcs game) .. Even though they did not play that extra game.

what would yall do if they selected UGA to go to the SECCG instead of UT because they felt UGA would be a better matchup with LSU

Who is They..................We are They???????Win out and Go.......What is the problem with that..............

Who is They

Face it.......it is better for GA if they do not go to the SECCG................They will go to the BCS and not have to earn by default it through the SECCG...........Our
way to go to the BCS is through winning out........GA will drop and LSU may not make the cut........
