I've seen REK at Bocktoberfest before (worked on the Shiner account at an ad agency in Austin), and he's consistent - in the way Buffett is. Fans love him, and he knows how to give 'em what they want.

Last big concert was Virgin Fest in Baltimore in August. It was brutally hot, but the tunes were good. Peter Bjorn and John was great, as were the Beastie Boys - my first time seeing them, and I loved it. The Police were disappointing - played a lot of good songs, but they were going through the motions.

Actually get decent music in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area. Going to see two good local bands tmrw night - Roman Candle and The Old Ceremony.
My last concert was Tim Reynolds and Bela Fleck w/the flecktones....Dave Matthews did a couple songs with them, good show...

Saw John Prine at the Schemerhorn Symphony Hall last night in Nashville. The guy is still awesome.

I have seen Prine 6 times in the last 8 years, and he gets better every time. The current show is unbelievable. He shoved so much into the set, that I fear he may be winding down. I hope I am wrong.

i've always wanted to see dave matthews. i think he's only been around here once and i was in middle school.

Dave used to play Knoxville regularly and the band had some good friends in the area. Saw them at Flamingos, Electric Ballroom, World's Fair Site and Thompson Boling Area. Met Carter a few times and hung out with him at Flamingos for a Tim Reynolds show. Only about 20 people there. Me and two friends, Carter, LeRoi, Tim Reynolds and his band had a fun time that night and the next night in Birminghan. We got Carter pretty torn up on some Jack. Getting to hear stories about opening for the Dead a few months prior was priceless.

As for recent shows, I actually saw more than usual this year. Disco Biscuits in Cincinnati rocked. moe. was great in Cincy and here in Knoxville during the spring. They are coming back March 1st, can't wait. Widespread Panic had a nice 2 night run at the TN Theater. Sector 9 was sick at the TN Theater. Buckethead was interesting. Jeff Tweedy was incredible at the Bijou. Willie and Merle at the Smokies park was solid.

I finally got to see the Flaming Lips in Norfolk this year. What a great show. It doesn't get much better than that on stage if you are looking for a crazy time with good vibes.

Nice year, Rosen! WP was great at the Tenn Theater. John Mayer was impressive. I also caught Scott Miller solo at the Bijou, which was very cool. Alice in Chains unplugged at the Ryman was my latest venture, and although I went in a little skeptical without Staley, William Duvall was incredible and added a new twist on the AIC style, without adulterating the music. Soooooo cool to hear the Jar of Flies songs live, and Rooster and Down in a Hole sent chills through the crowd.

Oh, also saw Sons of Ralph in a small venue in Asheville recently, and was pretty impressed with the bluegrass band composed of a father and two of his offspring.

moe. is coming back to Knoxville? if true, where did you here this? i thought their show was decent and their lights were awesome.

i haven't been to many shows recently. i did a bunch though here and in Atlanta January-August. i usually spend all free time/money on football season August-December.

i am looking forward to getting to some shows after the New Year.

the two night run at the TN Theatre by Panic, Umphey's at the Bijou, and Gov't Mule at bonnaroo (with Bob Weir, Michael Franti, John Paul Jones, and a host of other sitting in) stick out to me.

They released a bunch of dates end of last week. It's true. No idea when tickets go on sale yet. You can bet I'll be up front ready to rock.

I've seen moe. roughly 20 times dating back to 97 and last year they sounded better than ever. Highly recommend anyone looking for a good time check them out.

I assume WP=WSP. Went to all 3 shows at the Ryman. It was great but I got my fill and then some. Will finish off this music year with Del McCrory & friends at the Ryman, which of course means I will not be venturing to Tampa.

yeah, i've seen them several times myself. the impression i'm left with them is that i'm either blown away when i leave the show or so bored i'm glad it's over.

their lights have always been amazing though. i'll definitely be seeing them again here.

I'll freely invite the wrath of non-nashvillians here but I have to say that other than the occasional "megatour" (had to go to Miami to see the Police this Summer) I can see better quality of music for free/cheap on any given night in Nashville, TN than most people can see for any price anywhere else in the world.

It's threads like this that make me feel how much older I am than the average poster. I went to see Jimmy Buffett in May and other than several Yanni concerts haven't been to a concert in about 8 years. That one was fantastic.....Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis. For you young folk they were two of the original five members of the 5th Dimension.

I agree, heck last year I saw Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings in Murfreesboro for 8 bucks, freakin spectacular show. Too bad there were only like 50 people there.

I went to the Del McCoury New Year's Eve show last night. For part of Del's first set and all of his last set he was joined by John Fishman on drums, Drew Emmitt on mandolin/vocals, and Vince Herman on guitar/vocals. Several other guests played with Del and his band. The second set was electric (not acoustic). It was awesome.

That sounds like a top notch show there.

I saw RAQ at the Bijou on the 30th. Good show.

I spent New Years Eve listening to a simulcast of Widespread Panic from the Phillips Arena. They were on fire last night. Played poker online for a couple hours listening to them jam. Great show.
