The wife and I saw local hero, Robert Earl Keen here in College Station on Saturday. Great show, as was expected. He is very consistent as he always puts on a great show and it never matters what venue. I have seen him over the course of the years at least a dozen times at various locations. Same results. Great time, lots of cold beer, and great music. Anybody else? Whats the music scene where your at?

Music scene is bit worse than to be expected for a city of this size (Birmingham).

Last show I saw was Ben Harper - outstanding.

over the summer I got to experience Summerfest in Milwaukee. "the world's largest music festival". It was really great.

Music from all sorts of genres, with 10 concerts or so going on simultaneously. If you love music, it definitely needs to be added to your must attend list.

Edit: btw, not sure how highly ya'll regard Miller Brews, but there was cheap beer everywhere.

Summerfest is outstanding. Great facilities and great shows. I hope you had some Leinenkugel while you were there.

The facilities and shows were both amazing.

Leinenkugel was featured at the hotel bar, but alas, I do not drink. I'm pretty sure some of the people I was with had it while we were up there though.

REK was my last show as well. It was a good show, but I am positive he puts more energy into his offering at College Station. I was disappointed that he didn't play anything off of his Farm Fresh Onions cd.

Steely Dan is one of the best, most timeless rock bands ever. Excellent musicianship and they are perfectionists when it comes to their sound. Saw them here in Orlando, of course.

I believe they also played at that Summerfest. They did several of those, and opening date for them last year was Beale Street.

I'm going to see Van Halen here in town in February. Waiting to see if Zeppelin goes on tour.

to lex and mike, I couldnt agree more. Robert dumps tons of energy into his shows here in College Station. Its like a homecoming atmosphere with many of the "old" gaurd that knew him when he was in college hanging around. Ive seen him totally wasted at a College Station show once and he was freaking awesome then too. He just gets pumped because he can let his gaurd down I guess. As far as "Gringo Honeymoon", last song at my reception. He played it the other night too. First time I heard it live.

how many times are you going to remind us that that you consider them one of the best and that you saw them in Orlando?

and more importantly, who really cares?:eek:hmy:

The question was what is going on in our own concert-going and in our own locales. I answered.

Gee whiz.

I've seen REK at Bocktoberfest before (worked on the Shiner account at an ad agency in Austin), and he's consistent - in the way Buffett is. Fans love him, and he knows how to give 'em what they want.

Last big concert was Virgin Fest in Baltimore in August. It was brutally hot, but the tunes were good. Peter Bjorn and John was great, as were the Beastie Boys - my first time seeing them, and I loved it. The Police were disappointing - played a lot of good songs, but they were going through the motions.

Actually get decent music in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area. Going to see two good local bands tmrw night - Roman Candle and The Old Ceremony.
