In the real world-that only goes so far, it is dependent on how much of a 'lack of talent' the coach has to work with, and how much dedication the talent lacking players have. The greatest coach of all times can not make a 'silk purse out of a sow's ear'. The greatest coach in the world can't give a man 'heart' he either has heart (the drive) or he doesn't. Boy butch fielded a team (last year) that like to play two quarters at most, 3rd and 4th they weren't there, thus the worst team in UT history. The first thing CP must do-and I believe he's doing it-is to get most of the team to play more than two quarters. Even if it is poor playing, don't quit. I remember when boy butch took over, you heard, over and over again-"He took over a dumpster fire!!!!!" blah, blah.... Now, here comes a coach that has taken over a 'forest fire', and many don't want to give him at least two seasons-they gave boy butch five, and many of the guys with their man-crush for butch, were willing to give him several more!!We should stop with the player threads. Sure there.is a lack of talent. A good coaching staff takes what he has and fields a competent team. It might still result in losses but at least they look competent. We are anything but.
I can't wait until tank McCullough gets here and is allowed to have contact with warrior. Warrior is a disappointment to an extent at present. Was hoping he could add some pop and had some dog but he's a puppy......how cute! Don't get your pretty whites all dirty honey chile! The level of suck with this team is EPIC. The only players who deserve to be on the field are the freshmen that Pruitt brought and a few others. Is it possible to just cut 20-30 players to make room for a bunch of new freshmen? I realize that next year would probably suck too but at least we would have a chance with a Pruitt picked team. I have absolutely no confidence that he is going to be able to coach up the bunch of losers that are here. Worse, their terrible play may infect the newbies. Better if we could just get rid of at least 1/3 of the team.
I cant blame it all on those players for their epic suck levels - Butch simply failed them and gave them terrible habbits. They are a bunch of marshmallows out there and they just dont fight for it. This is a serious question, can CJP simply get rid of some of these highly rated Mac level players to make room for some people who have potential? These players suck, we know they suck and the worse thing of all, THEY know they suck. I dont think coaching can fix that. When you THINK you are a loser, you are ALWAYS right.
I'm starting to think some of them are milking the university out of scholarships, housing, meals, while faking the desire to contribute to the team. Getting a free ride and neglecting contractural obligation. Weird huh? What's the true underlying reason and why hasn't anyone said it? Are the schemes difficult to understand for some players while others take right to it? Major bucks being paid to this staff. At least explain why the terrible play.Butch is not coaching this team. No more excuses. There is no intensity, no fire, no drive, no nothing. They are not competing. I’ll say it again.....if app state and Troy can compete with 2 and 3 star players, what the hell is our problem? That’s coaching. I’m not saying Pruitt can’t get the job done, but they better figure out a way in a hurry. Not asking for a 6 win season, just to play with a pulse.
The stuff we hear now is the same wr heard when butch took over, its pretty much groundhog day. And noone wanted to give him several more years, stop fooling yourself. In the real world-that only goes so far, it is dependent on how much of a 'lack of talent' the coach has to work with, and how much dedication the talent lacking players have. I certainly understand your take on what is going on. Perhaps if Pruitt was the hire with his same background but in 2010 after Kiffin left in the middle of the night, I would be less understanding of your skepticism. However, it's been 14 years now since UT put a team on the field that I thought could win any game it played. 2004 was the last year we beat Georgia, Florida, and Bammer all in the same season. 2004!!!!! That's a long time to hope for the best. To me it's put up or shut up time for this school I call my alma mater. I'm talking about the powers that be who do the hiring and firing of our athletic programs. To me, they are on the clock. Pruitt and company will be okay even if he doesn't pan out here. It's time the fan base held the administration, board of trustees, and donors accountable for idiotic decisions concerning our beloved program. Not sure what that looks like in practice.Seems reasonable, we’re both willing to give the guy time the only difference is you think he will pan out, I hope he does but don’t really feel it, I guess I’m just pessimistic. Anyway I sure hope your right and I’m wrong.
No they werent and its not close. UF beat UK. They beat Vandy by 2 scores and almost beat TAMU and LSU. They handidly beat UAB. Meanwhile last year we almost lose to UMASS. Got smoked by Vandy. Lost to UK. Got trounced by LSU and went without an offensive in TD in how many quarters? We were much, much worse than UF last year.
The difference between us and the likes of UF, Aub, UGA, LSU is clearly.....talent.
Lets stop kidding ourselves. Mullen simply has better talent. Smart had better talent when he took over.
It bridges the gap between the first year coaching pains when you have guys who can play.
We are simply outmatched on both sides of the line.
Florida's secondary is fast and can more than keep up with our receivers and our fastest back, Chandler. What can you do in your first year when the talent just simply isn't there?
